It seems like the more I red the more confused I get. Some of the material is dated back a few years and I am not sure if its still relevant. Can someone tell me the latest programs to use that are recent. There are so many programs mentioned I dont know which ones to use and in which order. I know I need a program to remove the copy protecton. Then I think I need a program to copy the DVD to the hard drive. And finally a program that takes the copy from the hard drive and burns it onto the DVD.
Now if I need to copy a movie over 2hours/4.7G When do I use the program dvd rebuilder with respect to the programs mentioned above for a dvd less tha 2hrs/4.7G.
I am new to this and trying to understand how the puzzle fits together.
I have read ScubaPetes guide but it is dated 2. September 2004.
If there is a more current guide with the newer programs that will work with the newer movie releases could you please point me to it.
Thanks, PatM

I downloaded dvdfab. Do I install the VSO burn engine in this program. ( this removes copy protection and copies dvd to hardrive).I downloade imageburn ( this copis from hard drive to DVD).
I do the copy procedure in this order. Right. I hope
1)DVDfab
2)imageburn
Now as far as DVD Rebuilder, do i run this program before 1?, in between 1 and 2? or after 2?
Thanks, PatM

That's up to you.

You can't. You need to get the files to your HDD first.
Quote: in between 1 and 2?
Yes.
Quote: or after 2?
Now you very well can't do it after the files are burned to the disc can you?

Is Vso burn engine the same as imageburn. If it is then i dont need imageburn. Dvdfab with VSO burn engine will do everything - remove copy protection, copy to hard drive and burn to DVD automatically.
Thanks, PatM

No they are not the same. ImgBurn is better.

If you are going to take the time and effort necessary to make quality back-ups, don't take shortcuts. Go with what dialysis suggested and use ImgBurn.

i opened dvdfab and in the source i clicked the folder and clicked to where the dvd iwant to copy is located - D drive. A box opens that says send info. I clicked the checkmark in upper right corner and box opens and says
Info for folder [D:\VIDEO_TS\] (DVDFab HD Decrypter 5.2.3.2)
Disc is not opened.
Also, I only see dvd to dvd not dvd to hard drive. I thought this would be easy.

Where it says "Target", click on the down arrow and you can save it to dvdfab's folder, or click on the "folder" icon to save it where you want to.

i tried dvd shrink 3.2 with a dvd in drive D. The analysing window opened and started scanning very fast but it got slower and slower until it froze.
Using the same DVD with dvdfab i tried the split and nothing happens but it looks like the customize split and main movie options are ok.
Any thoughts.

pat... I applaud you. At least you took the time to read. Nothing is more frustrating than people asking questions without having done at least that.
DVD Shrink was last updated in 2005 and will not work in decrypting any newer encryptions since then. I would guess that this is the issue you're dealing with. DVDFab should work as long as you have the most recent updated version.

5.2.3.2 version. Its strange the customize and customize split options work but not the split. Maybe it has something to do with the chapters.

Thread title renamed to reflect the movie in question.
The existing Wall-E thread is here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/718139 however the method is the same of ALL newer movies out there -
1/ Use DVDFab HD Decrypter (free version) to rip movie in movie only mode or full disc mode, to hard drive
2/ If movie will fit on a single layer disc, burn to blank with imgburn (free), if you're happy with buying dual layer discs, burn to dual layer with imgburn
3/ if movie is too big for a single layer disc then shrink the movie with DVD Shrink, DVD Rebuilder (DVD Rebuilder is dead easy to use, there's a free version or a paid Professional version - plus there are free and paid 'encoders' which Rebuilder utilises) or program of choice
4/ burn to blank single layer disc with imgburn
DVD Movie ripping & burning couldn't be easier, i suspect you're making it complicated by reading too many guides.
I'll leave this open for a while, then will close it as we already have a Wall-E thread, but as i say, it's all dead easy
