I was talking with some buddies and they said that Quad is better then Wolfdale E8400....and that Wolfdale is better then Quad...what do you guys think?

I'm interested in this one-E8400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037

and Quad Q8200
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115055

The wolfdale has more MB L2 Cache and GHz then the Quad and I am not using for gaming but more for dvd and video side. editing, ripping, sharing.

what do you guys think?

would a Core 2 Quad Processor Q9400 be at best if I could afford it?
it has a 2.66 GHz speed. 6MB Level 2 Cache. 1333MHz Frontside Bus(my Mobo supports it). CPU Voltage - 0.85V - 1.3625V . Thermal Design power - 95 Watts.

So what do you guys think? WOuld I also need a hard core Power Sup?

Unless cost isn't really an issue you'd probably be better off overclocking the lower quad to get the increase in performance without any increase in cost.

What Power Supply do you have now, and what else is in the system?

I have a PS at home already.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152019
it was just hanging in my gaurage.

I still need Ram and the processor and a good heat sink for the processor in my future chosing.

You'll definitely need a better PSU than that for a Quad core CPU. Which though, depends on the other components.

Difficult since you still won't give me an idea of what's going to be in the rest of the system.

Well, my current recommended quad is the Q9400. Not sure if it's in your budget though.

There is this store 1 hr away from my home that sells the Q9400 less then $190.00 which is only pick-up merchandise. So if its for a processor, its worth the drive.

what do you recommend for RAM? Im looking for 4Gb.
My Mobo is posted here on this thread.

as long as it matches those 2 model numbers I am good right?
how did you come up with that? Where do I look for that match just by looking at my Mobo?

PC6400 and 8500 are just the two most common speeds, that's all they mean, PC6400 is 800mhz and PC8500 is 1066mhz. I pick Corsair not off the back of compatibility lists, but that it tends to be the most reliable and trouble-free brand of memory.

What gfx card are you using? I have a Quad Q6600, 4gb ram, 9800GTX+ gfx card and this is what I am running for a psu:

The Corsair 520W HX will run almost anything you can throw at it unless you use multiple graphics cards, but it's quite expensive. If a cheaper unit will do the same job, I see no reason to offer it, but without knowing the system, I can't, and the 520HX is my 'all purposes' unit anyway.

not really for gaming but for video editing purposes. My brother plays games, but emulators and almost any cpu can handle that. I'm gonna get a tv turner to record tv programs.

Sammi, I do believe that Corsair is reliable. I think I might get that RAM stick and use the rebate to buy another set. But how good is Newegg in mail in rebates?
So far my experience with mail in rebates in general have been 2/3.

Better than average I hear, but I don't have any personal experience as I'm not an american.
For a system like that you could get away with:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008
no problem.
