Booting PSX backups with GS Lite

Long time lurker, first time poster.

My PSX backups are not booting using a GS Lite disc. I've tried the different burn methods in the tutorials here and used different brands of CD media (Memorex, Sony and TDK). The CDs are the standard green dye on the bottoms; haven't been able to find any Verbatims in a retail store. I've tried burning with Alcohol, CloneCD and even a cd copy with Nero 6.

My PSX models are a 7501 and 101. The strange thing is I've tried a copied game on a slimline PS2 using the menu swap method, and it worked fine. However, I don't want to keep doing that since it would eventually burn out the motor.

I've considered purchasing a Breaker Pro disc, but don't have much faith in it if the GS method isn't working. Mod chips aren't an option for now since I have no soldering skills, and don't know anyone who can do the job.
