croping mov file for you tube

I have a large quick time mov file I need to crop a small part to upload to you tube I'm a newbie at this looking for a program to do this (free)

YouTube is .flv format?

Try Avidemux.
Drag the .mov file onto the window.
Set the side menu and select the clip using the sliders/A-B buttons.
Save the file with a new name -including the extension, e.g. clip.flv

My son has been uploading to youtube recently. Apparently,
these days, they accept more or less anything.
He has uploaded xvid/divx avi files, as well as vcd/mpeg 1
successfully.

Youtube then converts them to FLV or mpeg-4/H.264 for the HQ version.

If you drag the output clip onto Mediainfo, is there audio shown.

I've have watched the whole video clip and the sound is there what free program can I use for avi . I can convert it to avi from mov

Mpegstreamclip.
Load the file.
Use the slider and mark the in and out points with i and o on the keyboard.
Click 'File' => 'Save as' and choose .avi as the output container.

I converted the mov to avi got it to crop but it saves it as just file or idx how do you get Avidemux to save the file in the right file format?

If you simply change the 'Format' box to 'AVI', then the video and audio will be saved as-is in the new AVI container.
When saving the file, give the complete name (including the extension), e.g clip.avi

Thanks attar but I got it done in the Kodak program i had to crop small parts at a time or it would freeze up but now my band is on you tube I wish I could plug the band but I think it's not allowed on AD but send me a private message and I'll tell you how to find it. Thanks again !!
