You still need your original drive's key, if your drive is totally shot and you don't have that key, your Xbox 360 is useless.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Where are they cheap as hell? I have trouble finding any for under $40.00, and you can usually add $10.00 or so for shipping. I just got a Pioneer 215 dbk for $22.00, free shipping at newegg.com, thats less than half, so please, is it possible to put a pc dvd drive in a 360? Obviously there would need to be some type of converter for the goofy power receptacle.

yeah, maybe you need to learn to read again or you obviously did not read it.
NO NO NO. It is not possible to just put any dvd player in an xbox and expect it to read your game.

@Taurus... did you receive these drives yet? I bought a bunch of Hitachi's off of fleabay that were described as "brand new". The seller was a chinese supplier and they shipped from china. I can't remember the seller's name but NONE of them were brand new and all of them bricked. Missing screws, silver tape on the front, and very difficult to flash. I have done hitachis before without a problem but these were screwed up when I got them and definetly not brand new.

That's why you don't buy anything from a Chinese seller in Ebay.

I like my Hong Kong version of an Xbox 360 harddrive and also my Kingzon 8 GB mp3 player, both bought on ebay from sellers in Hong Kong.

Good for you but it's still risky. Also try to see the feedback on the seller before purchasing anything.

Not to get too far off topic but seeing how you mentioned this... I was looking through Dealextreme just a little while back and noticed they were selling (but out of stock at the time) aftermarket 120 gig 360 drives for $78 with free shipping. That's a good price but I noticed that someone commented that those drives are just hacked WD BEV drives in recycled 20 gig cases and that it may also be possible for MS to detect hacked hdd.
