well if you are getting a green light then i dont think power is the issue. I have a wii and its pretty quiet as far as fans and drive is concerned. If you are getting power and no picture maybe you need a new audio/video cable (component or composite). You know the Red, White, and Yellow cables. If you know someone who has a wii see if you can borrow their hookups, or maybe gamestop has a extra set laying around they would let you try your wii on. In any case I would say start with the audio/video cables.

Another thing is did the person who gave it to you open it at all? If so maybe they messed around with it and unplugged the fan on accident. I would talk to the previous owner also. Good Luck.

Ive tried it on known working cables, there is definately no working power, it will not pull a dvd into the drive, you can see the fan at the back not turning, I recon it has been power spiked

yep youre prolly right. Im sure you can send it to Nintendo and get it fixed for less than it would cost to buy a new one. You should call them and see if you need the receipt to get it repaired (since im guessing you dont have the receipt).
