So i used to have a slim ps2 which i modded using tissue and tape.
Then i got swap magic and played all my backups and stuff.

Unfortunately, i gave away my ps2 and i still want to play some classics again, so i got another ps2...a fat one.

I was wondering how i could go about modding the ps2 so i can play backups AND/OR foreign games.

I don't want to buy any modchips since i can't solder and i'd prefer not to spend money at all. I saw something called "McBoot" and I was wondering if that works and stuff?

I need solutions / tutorials and stuff! Thanks!

there are two ways of playing your back-ups and downloads. You can use magicdisk with a slider to open your drive or you can use exploits with armax. Post and ill tell you how.

MacBook (Black, 2.4Hz, 2Gb Memory, 250Gb Hard Drive), iPhone 1st Gen. (2G), iPhone 2nd Gen. (3G), iPhone 3rd Gen. (3G S), iMac (2.4GHz, 20-inch, Intel Core 2 Duo, 1Gb Memory, 250Gb Hard Drive, Built in iSight Camera), Dell Studio 17 (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Built in 2mp Cam, ATI Radeon HD 3650), PSP Slim 2003 (Thinking of Clearcase with SMT LEDs), PS3 80Gb, Xbox 360 Elite (Thinking of Arcrylic Window with LEDs)
PS2 (Modded with 18-inch fan and 10-inch blue cathode)
Toshiba Laptop (18-inch, Intel Pentium 4, ATI Graphics Card and WinXP)

Free McBoot is a method of running homebrew applications directly off a Memory Card as a stand alone loader. No boot discs or modchips are required once installed
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/FMCBv1.8.html

PM one of these trustworthy guys , say like "core2kid" to install fmcb to a memory card for you.
It only costs the postage to them and back to you.
http://psx-scene.com/forums/freevast/588...b-for-you.html.

You will then be able to play backups that are patched with a ESRPatchJava_v0.2.4 disc patcher.
http://psx-scene.com/forums/official-esr...ublic-beta.html

Short background: ESR is an application that gives you the possibility to launch DVD discs patched to DVDV format on unmodded consoles, meaning using fmcb 1.8

ah cool, so fmb is like a work-around modchips / buying discs and stuff.

do i really need to send in my memory card? because the tutorial seems in-depth and able to be done by anybody.

So let me get this straight :

-i have a fat ps2
-i install fmb onto it
-i patch my isos with ESRPatchJava_v0.2.4
-i can play my backups

i hope this is right :D

You can do it yourself.
You need to use one of the methods posted in the tutorials to do it yourself

That tutorial is old already as fmcb is now 1.8
and you still need a way to install using that method.

Just follow one of the tutorials posted in this link
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/

You can now autoboot the backups etc using fmcb 1.8, when back then with 1.5 you couldn't.

So just stick with the updated tutorials.

FMCB 1.8 with ESR works great on slims and on FAT PS2.
