go to the recovery menu on your psp and in configuration make sure Use M33 network update is enabled if not enable it,
then exit recovery mode and go to network update and search for an update, it should find 5.00m33-6 download it and run it, it will say it needs an eboot file, it gives u an option to download then, download it,and finish the update.
it might say the data of some sort is corrupt just hit x to continue, and u have 5.00M33-6.
i would personaly stay at 3.90m33-3 its better for homebrews.

ps. if u had any homebrews u might want to load them agian.

5.00 is actually better for homebrew, the only big difference between homebrew compatibility was between 1.50/1.00 firmwares and everything else but now dark alex has released LEDA so having compatibility issues with homebrew is going to be a thing of the past as he updates more and more to include everything as its not perfect yet
but its better then staying on older firmwares not capable of playing new games or newest and better version of the same older homebrew when now you can get all the new features and some of the old atleast for slim owners since phat users have always had the 1.50 addon

Hey guys,

I am currently running 3.90 M33-3 with aan 8gb stick. I have a phat white psp, I think it is from japan (PSP-100). My situation is that it's been a while since I used my PSP due to a broken screen. I just ordered my new screen and will install it as soon as it comes in. I want to upgrade from 3.90 M33-3 to 5.00 M33-6. I forgot how to do everything. Can someone guide me into this step by step?? You don't have to go in to too much detail. Once I start doing it I am sure I will remember and understand more clearly. My other question is, if I am running 5.00 what game should I put in my PSP to run games from my memory stick. I had "The Simpsons Game" in my PSP when I ran the 3.90 but that game was lost. I picked up Patapon because that was newer than the Simpsons. Do I need a game with 5.00 software. I'm lost. Thanks guys!!!!!!!! I will try and post this again as a new topic in case no one checks this one out.

if you have wifi you can upgrade through the m33 network update staright to the latest if you have to do it manual. first download the 500.pbp official firmware and then the 5.00 m33-6 eboot.pbp and put both in root:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ and run it like a game to update, links for official and custom firmwares are in my signature.
as for what umd to use, if you press select you can get to the m33 vsh menu and change umd iso mode to m33 driver or the sony driver and not need a umd in, the only time you need a umd is if your mounting a umd video iso from root:/ISO/VIDEO/ and as far as i know there is no way around that yet.
