This error code is "connect dvd drive to boot"......Dvd drive connected no boot? I even switched out the drive I know wouldnt play games but just checkin if it was the drive but no boot just 3rrod. Changed the wires not successful so process elimination something wrong with mobo any one else had this prob? Suggestions?

Yes the drive came out on both of the dvd drives i used opened up fine and they both seem like they would play games so idk and there are no burn marks and i didnt see any loose solder connections?

I picked it up from someone for 30$ cause they didnt know what to do with it because had the rrod. I didnt do the error code check till after I took off the xclamps tried it once didnt fix it so I just thought it was just stubborn. I did it again didnt work checked the error code swapped the wires tried it didnt work swapped the drive didnt work. So I went back to work and checkin google lookin for some answere to my prob but alas I found absolutely nothin about a fix for this error code

well the drive could be getting power to eject but the sata port on the board could be bad and it isnt getting detected. do you have a system that you know is good that you could test the drive from this system in. That will be the only way to really tell if it is a problem with that drive or not since it wont work on that board. just be carefull swapping everything and dont forget which drive goes with which board cause that would be a headache

From what I have been testing is that I believe its the SATA port on the MOBO but the ? is would that make it a perm rrod? The other 360 I tested them on did not have an error but figured out one of the drives motors that holds that corkscrew looking thing doesnt work... also where would you adjust the laser in a benq drive

Well it would give rrod cause it cant find a drive. We already know error code 1023 means no drive connected so a bad sata port is equal to a sata cable bot plugged in or a bad sata cable. maybe try to apply some downward pressure to the sata plug on the mobo when turning the system on and maybe it will make a good connection again and work momentarily proving this is the problem. google 360 pot tweak to find laser adjustments.

I wonder if I could just use a hair dryer to heat up the solder and see if I can make a better connection if it is that port?

i dont know man, you would need to be carefull cause i think that port is made of plastic as well as the power port beside it so it would be easy to damage those with heat. maybe heating from the underside would be better. and some people say a hair dryer doesnt get hot enough, i havent been in a situation where i had to use one so far. But then again the board is pretty much useless if you cant connect a drive. My advice is if you know someone that can solder maybe have them take a look at it and they could remove the plug and put it back on with new solder or replace it with another from a diff board that is trashed already. but i mean dont be surprised if it never works....good news is you only paud $30 right? but you could always just use the drive and flash it with the current 0800 or wait for 1.6 which will have 0800 support and then you can use the drive to rip games and they would be stealth already since you would be using a 360 drive. lol everytime i get a 360 for cheap like this i almost wish the board was bad so i could use the drive, i just dont want to use a drive from a good unit since it is worth more that way.

Well I can solder but I dont have an iron anymore im going to get another one here soon but im not really tryinhg to take it off just heat up the solder somewhat and move thr port around a little. One thing I have never done is learned how to flash a drive if I knew how id do it but sadly i have never learned. Also for one of the drives I believe its a hitachi cant remember its worm motor is shot so i have to get another one of those and the extra benq I have doesnt read thats why I was trying to find out how to adj the laser

you do know that if you swap a drive from one 360 to another it will not work untill you flash that drive with that boards key which is retreived from the original drive that was with that board. untill that is done i think the only thing that will happen is maybe read movies but it shouldnt say the drive isnt connected .

ok just making sure. there are a lot of tuts here and threads on how to do it. check the ultimate sticky at the top of the main 360 forum view, it has a lot of tuts in it and can help to understand everything more clearly. Then if you have questions post a topic :) unlike so many people that signup and the first post they make before reading anything is "how do i flash my 360, and what does flashing do" lol u get my point.

I think Im going to try the towel trick it seems like my last hope....I have done the xclamp mod tried the penny trick tried to hold down the sata cable when drive connected to mobo and tried to heat up the conn with a hair dryer the towel trick seems to be my last hope if it doesnt work then o well still have a broken system eh?

you can salvage the drive and use it to rip games with at the very least. with 1.6 comming any drive will have the ability to make raw dumps like a kreon drive but better

will you have to use the xbox to read the discs or caould i hook it up to my pc providing i can source the cables to do so.
nort sure how this will work or what software you would use but the prospect sounds realy interesting....lol
