I always wondered is there like something spectular does it happen aburptly. When does it happen what should I expect.

same thing happens if you have no internet connection. You cannot connect to live then you do a connection test. But instead of it saying something wrong with connection it says you are banned.

It does happen abruptly, my old console was playing on live just fine. Was playing a game for an hour, turn off console and came back a few hours later and bam, my box was banned. This was way back when before the whole stealth checks and firmware but it did come out of nowhere.

So all that happens is that particular 360 gets banned or does your IP get banned ? Also do you get banned if your Xbox is flashed and you are using an original game?

just the console. NOT even the profile. You are safe with originals and just make sure your backups are stealth and you should be ok. New firmware will only load stealth backups.

If I bought a new console can I log on to live with my old account simply by plugging in the Hard Drive from my flashed 360 or will that get my new one banned the new one is not modified

I never tried that but I was told Only THE xbox is banned not the hardrive. Vice versa one would assume if the banned 360 was to get a new harddrive it would still stayed banned. The user-name is not banned either the actual 360 unto its self is banned.

Does anyone know how they differentiate the banned 360's? what exactly on the 360 is being singled out as a key that is unique to that particular 360 which was banned? Always wondered

each 360 has a serial number, which is somewhere in the console in a sticker.I think.Anyway each time you log on live, the serial of your console is sent,so they know which console you're playing on,and if you are doing wrong things,they'll scrape that serial number off thgeir list and ban you.

Yes you can, when my old console was banned I used that HDD on another console logging into profile and live and have been ever since, no problems. The console is the only thing that gets ban.
