i have a vista desktop (32bit, dual core 3ghz, 2g ddr2, 512 ddr3 pci. in case u need to know) and recently it has found a way to become worse.

now whenever i try to install a program, including window updates. it'll either sit there at 1% or the preparing installation screen. also it will try to go the sleep mode and turn the monitor off but keep the comp running, so i have to unplug then restart to get working again.

what would b causing these problems? maybe is there a registry editor that may fix this? i would greatly appreciate any help on this!
