every time i try to get !list in efnet i get message
list output too large ,truncated and all i get are the channels near bottom is there a way to limit channel list to say top 20
Not as far as I know. The solution I use is going to searchirc.com and looking up Efnet under networks, and under "Display all Channles" I click on the "Sort By Channel Size" link (or something to that effect) and there you have it, an un-truncated !list of sorts.
np, glad I could be of service. I will also note here though that some of the other superhuge networks' channel listings are not indexed by searchirc, though they will still have a listing of the top five. I haven't figured a workaround for that yet, if anyone knows, let it be known here.
on packetnews.com go to the main page, look to the left for a link that says "networks", then choose efnet, you'll get a nice list of channels, not all, but the ones that matter will be listed.
Shows channels arranged alphabetically on Efnet. Just replace "Efnet" with the name of the network you want to see.
Most of the large networks have around 2000 pages of listings, and that will take a few seconds to load. If it takes too long, SearchIRC will time out and not show the list at all. This morning I was able to get all of the networks. At peak user times you may not be so lucky. But for one exception, SearchIRC will show ALL the channels in the network's /list. The only list that is truncated is Quakenet's. We don't gather channels with one user on Quakenet, because they could form a small nation with the number of channels that have no users but are kept open by their channel service.
btw, #searchirc on irc.searchirc.com if you have questions. We don't bite. really. <eg>
