I have a ms2 drive, the thing is shot, no fixing it and I am not covered under warranty, my question is can I buy a new ms25 drive and just stick it in my motherboard. Is there anything else I need to do? I dont have my broken drives key or anything. It is dead and there my sata card will not read it.

is the PCB board bad? if so then there is nothing you can do. I have here there r some people who can pull the chip off the board and put it on another if you wanna try that u will just have to look around and find someone.

well if the sata card wont read it and you dont have the key you cant put another drive in because it has to have same key as original

that is what I thought, I was just wanting to confirm that I couldnt just put another ms25 drive in it. I knew that it couldnt be that easy

its that easy if the PCB(circuit board on bottom of drive)is good. But yours may not be. how did you try to read it and what happened to make it bad?
