This article makes a good case that Used Games Trade-In programs are hurting the game industry. Buying used games doesn't support the work of the original creative team. Also, Amazon's entry into the used games market might be too hard of a blow for smaller retailers to recover from.

What do you think? Used Games are good/bad? I personally don't buy used. They're scratched up and dirty. Plus, I don't think it's a good deal to get $3-10 bucks for something I paid $50-60 for. I rather keep it and lend it out to friends.

Sure they are probably taking a bite out of sales, but this is nothing new. Used games have been sold nationwide in stores since the days of SNES and the industry is still around. If it was so bad no one would be making games at all anymore. I don't sell why amazon getting in on it is such a big deal. People have already be able to sell their games on eBay and Amazon for many years with much of the same effect.

BTW it's not accurate to imply all used games are scratched up and dirty. I've seen used games complete in box with manuals where every was in brand new condition. One must be selective if new condition is desired.

So sherlocke I would hope that you bought your car new. Because I would hate to see the dealerships upset with you because you decided to save some money and get a car just like your new one but a little used. Used games are a great deal man. Instead of only making 50 bucks for a one time sale the game now makes an extra 30 or 15 each time it is re-sold. We all know that a 50 dollar price tag isn?t attractive to any level of gamer, but when you see it for 20-30 that same game just became o so more attractive. There is no harm in selling used games and if Amazon.com wants in on it well good; more game distribution, more game sells, and more growth of the gaming industry. As for the small shops and such well poop sorry life is completive and if you can?t offer what people need then move aside for those that can. That?s my two cents anyways

The "used games are hurting the gaming industry" thing is complete bullcrap. Since when do you hear, "don't buy used cars. They hurt the car manufacturing industry!"? What makes the gaming industry think they are so special? You can buy so many things second-hand and you don't see these other industries complaining. Yet the gaming industry wants special treatment. To hell with them. Buying things second hand is good for the environment. Especially considering how much e-waste crap we dumb in landfills in China. Our consumer whore society is already wasteful enough as it is so the last thing we should be doing is consuming even more new products. We should be buying more things second-hand if anything. Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if these corrupt game publishers paid off some key politicians in their next election campaigns to make used games illegal. Just like how major media players paid off our politicians to pass DMCA-like legislation. Before you know it, we'll see "buying things used is theft" commercials on TV. That's how the so-called "law" works unfortunately.

I have read so many of these BS articles. I look at it this way, used cars, musc cd, movies, clothes and all other good have existed for decades and longer so the game industry just needs to stop being babies and get over it. it is a freedom of choice to the consumer. gaming is growing industry and this is part of its success and growth. They need to adjust and get over it. If a dev or publisher doesnt like gamestops policies then they should remove their product from gamestop and stfu about it. There are plenty of other stores and ways for them to sell their product so they will survive, and the people that really want their items will buy them no matter what or where.

I remember reading an article by some guy from Epic Games saying that they should include a one-time use DLC code with every new retail game for purchase that would allow the consumer to download a small part of the game at the end that will allow to complete the game. In effect, people with used copies of the game wouldn't have that code and so they wouldn't be able to finish the game. The Epic guy said that if people with used copies want to finish the game, they should pay $20 for the DLC that would allow them to complete it.

This would also screw over customers who don't have internet access since they'd need to download the ending to finish the game. Epic would in effect alienate every Xbox 360 gamer that didn't have access to broadband internet. Something like almost 1 in 5 American households still don't have internet so you can imagine that these game companies would alienate a lot of Xbox 360 gamers if they pulled this off. Especially in countries where broadband internet penetration is much lower than in the west.

These game publishers are thieving crooks. If Epic Games actually pulled this off, I would just not buy their games period. There's no greater power than voting with your dollar. There are plenty other great games out there that can occupy my time.

Here's the article btw

yea if EPIC or anyone else did that im sure they would lose a lot of business. Thats like selling a used car and saying

"Oh you wanted the keys for it too? Well that is going to cost you an extra 1500 sir. Could I also interest you in a gas tank for your new purchase?"

What do you think EA Games uses SecuRom for? Security reasons? Yea, sure.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
