I want to make my own dvd key extractor (instead of buying CK3/probe/etc), and I hear its easy. I looks at this mini guide (middle of page):
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/25/724147
and it looks fairly simple.
Is there a more in depth guide for this and how it'll actually connect to everything. I looked on Youtube and can't find anything. If you made your own, where did you get your info from?

Ok, this is putting me in the right direction. A few Q's:
1) What is a DB9 Serial Connector? Will I need to buy this, and this simply plugs into Com port right?
2) In schematics when it says wire to ground - "DVD GND / DVD-Case" , is this Ground on the back of the DVD drive, port 5/7/9/11? If so, does it matter which port?
3) Same thing as above but "Ground to PC". Can this Ground be Molex Ground? or am I way off?

you can get a db9 connector at radio shack, basically you just solder your ground and tx to that. you dont ground on the system or anything, the ground is the negative that goes to the db9 to complete the circuit.

Mike, what did you use to power the 360 DVD drive? I didn't realize it until now, but I am planning on powering the drive w/ the 360, will I blow anything up :P

As long as you can solder, even poorly, it'd only take 60 seconds to assemble. If you want some more detailed pictures of how to assemble it, let me know.

I'm starting to get frustrated, you would think I can find the answer to this simple Q...
The back of my PC has a Male COM port, do I need a male to male (stick wires in lil holes) or female to male (solder wire's to male end)?
I need to know which one to buy off ebay.

Back of the pc is male, so you'd need a female. Just like in the picture.

Thanks bhetrick.
As for the ground you have, I know Mike didn't use one, but I'd like some feedback.
Where does your aligator clip onto? the chasis of the 360 or PC. Then are those (360 and PC) aligator clipped together?

For powering and ejecting the drive I use an old TX connectivity kit. That alligator clip attaches to a 5v power source on the kit.

just skimming, and i know your question has already been answered, but just an fyi when speaking about a "ground" the 360 is a floating ground and the pc chassis is a true ground.

cant really tell from the pic if your transistor is npn or pnp. google the part # on it and wire it accordingly.
