All of a sudden my DVD-ROM just stopped working for no reason. It's been working fine.

It's an LG DVD/CD ROM
I also have a Pioneer DVD - + r RW

I've had the computer for 5 months now.
The other day I put in a Data disk and XP just froze until I took out my disk. Then I tried a DVD movie (Bought), same thing. As a last resort I put in an audio CD. Same damn thing.

the Pioneer DVD - + r RW works fine with all the media. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?????

Has this happened to anyone else?

Well just incase your reading this thread because your having the same problem. I brought my computer back to the store which I bought it from after trying everything.

The guy at the store GREYTECH (www.greytech.ca) said you might have to reformat the HD. I asked them to look at it anyway just to make sure it was not the drive.

Well it was the drive. They hooked it up to a different computer and it screwed up there to. Good thing I did'nt take thier advice.

So there you go LG in general just sucks.

PS. Just so you know at work another LG DVD-ROM drive failed. So I'm not basing my LG sucks comment one one incident.

I'd be wary of any computer shop guys who says to reformat before every single option has been exhausted. Only a lazy s.o.b. says to reformat before even pulling the damn drive. Kudos to you for sticking to your guns and making him do what he should've done first :)

Here is a VERY ROUGH rule-of-thumb:

The greater number of letters in the Manufacturers name, the better quality the drive is...

Pioneer - Ace - 7 letters
Plextor - Ace - 7 letters
Sony - Reasonable - 4 letters
TDK - So so - 3 letters
NEC - Well! - 3 letters
LG - UGH! - 2 letters
