I am a long time mac user who emulates Windows via Parallels and have also used Laptops running Windows so I have an understanding of windows itself. My need for advice comes in that I understand a desktop PC is needed to flash the XBox 360s DVD Firmware. Basically I wanted to know what I should look for when purchasing a Desktop PC just to flash an XBox360. I understand a VIA VT6421 PCI SATA Card is the most compatible with the flashing programs available. Is this card something I could add to the machine when purchasing a machine piece by piece? Are there any motherboards I should stay away from that don't flash XBox360s too well? Any information anyone could provide would be very appreciated.

Yes you can purchase this card and add it to any PC with a available PCI slot

Wouldnt really matter about the motherboard as the Sata card will be the device that is controlling your 360 drive. You could buy any old PC and as long as you are using the SATA card then you will be OK

Thank you very much the info, you got me thinking now. I know there has to be a really old PC out there no one wants anymore because it's slow as dirt or something. Which is fine for me because I'll only need it for flashing and I can't see any computer not being fast enough to just flash. Looks like this isn't going to cost me anywhere near what I thought. Do most computers have an available PCI slot?
