My ps2 while using detects the usb drive but when accessed it displays no content.what might be the problem ?

Yes it has to be fat32 formatted but what are you trying to access it with?
Edit: Bare in mind that not all thumb drives are compatible with ps2?

My bad didnt read the title properly.
Try using a different usb device as like i said not all usb devices are compatible
