Replacing xbox dvd drive (help!)

Ok guys need some knowledge here.. the situation is a buddy of mine currently has a xbox that wont read games... the system DID play backups but he is unsure if the system is flashed or chipped as he purchased the system as is. the current drive is a BenQ and will be replaced with a BenQ. He also wants to flash the new drive.. i have read that you need to extract the key from the old dvd drive and insert it to the new drive.
so i guess my questions are.... what is the process of replacing the drive? and what programs or tools will be needed?

Jungle Flasher will handle your problem. Grab the newest version and when you first start it, click on the "User Guide" link and it'll open the guide for you.

ya i just did my xbox using that but i dont remember there being a drive replacement section.. will check again tho

Well if you're using the same drive then it's the same process with the exception that once you've read the key from the old drive you'll then pick up the process using the new drive.

Or, if that's too confusing, then just take the board out of the old Benq and put it in the new Benq, then update with Jungle Flasher.
