Hey, hopefully someone can help out with this.
I've run into a bit of a snag with my SwapMagic 3.8 disc. Earlier today I was playing Godhand on my PS2 Slim using SwapMagic 3.8 and slide tool. Turned it off, came back about two hours later and tried to boot up a game, the SM disc booted up fine, popped in the game disc and used regular boot, like always, but now for some reason the disc spins ridiculously slow, and it sounds like the laser is clicking against something. I tried again with another game but got the same result, but since my PS2 booted up the Swap disc just fine I assume it has something to do with the swap disc itself?
Thank you.

What brand of discs are you using? Do you have a slim PS2 or FAT as you said you used the slide tool with the slim.
The PS2 slim does not use a slide tool.
If it is the slim what Version is it?

My bad, messed up the name. Meant Slim Tool, http://www.gamebits.dk/shop/xcm-slim-tool-6149p.html as in these.
As for the discs used for burning I'm not quite sure as the label is gone, but from what I can tell from looking at the discs it would be Sony DVD+Rs.
The PS2 is model SCPH-70004, if that is what you mean.

Hi, no problem.. I figured you meant slim tool but thought I should ask.
I asked your version because I had an assumption it was a V12 and I am correct now that you said your model number.
Your laser problem could be due to a coil burnout on the PSTwo laser lens, but it may not be either.

If your burning to Sony DVD+R, make sure to set the booktype to DVD-
ROM in imburn or your burning program.

I'll try that out, but if it still doesn't work I guess I will have to take a look at the laser. How would I know if it's burned out? What part of it would it be?
Also, since I have next to no experience soldering and such, would it be wise to find someone with experience or will it be easy enough as long as I'm careful enough?

If it came to replacing the laser , it isn't hard at all.
You don't need to solder anything, when purchasing a new laser, just make sure to get them to desolder the anti-static points.
To install isn't hard at all. There are many tutorials to show you how.
But you may not need that done at all
You can try cleaning your laser also with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
Just dip the q-tip in the rubbing alcohol, not so its dripping but its wet, rub in a circular motion gently but firmly for about 30secs
Then use the dry q-tip and in same manner for about 6-8 secs.

Alright, thanks for your help.
I did the q-tip thing first and tried again, with the same results. I then decided to try and see if it was the disc as I first suspected and found my old 3.6 disc, which is quite badly scratched due to a small accident with the motor not grabbing it properly and used the old turpentine trick, popped it in, luckily it worked and tried with a burnt disc. To my surprise it actually span at a regular speed, though the laser seemed to travel back and forth quite a bit but eventually the game booted.
So I guess it's the 3.8 disc that's malfunctioning then? Seems quite logical, unless you know anything about that?
Either way, thank you for your help.

If your SM 3.8 actually loads fine and gets to the Swap Screen, there is nothing wrong with the disc.
Same goes for your 3.6
Once they have launched, they are fine.
Once you load your backups, and have issues then its either the laser giving your problems or its your backups.
