I was wondering since sony is promoting how much a blu ray disc can hold...why then are there some movies that have close to no special features? Are they going to rerelease a deluxe edition to get more money? If blu ray can hold 6x the amount than standard dvd can, then every disc should be loaded with features any existing features to date at least

anyone have an answer?

I personally haven't noticed what you're suggesting. I have close to a hundred BluRay movies and practically all have all the special features I could care about. I estimate that I've seen only 25 percent of all the extras in the movies that I own and practically none of the extras on the movies that I've rented. I have a BD Live player but I haven't even taken advantage of it.

However, I can think of a couple of reasons why you may feel as you do:

1. The studios want to put out the highest quality video they can on some movies. This means a higher average and peak bitrate and eventually a larger size video on the disc and less space for extras.

2. The same goes for lossless audio. A DTS HD Master Audio or Dolby True HD soundtrack will take up more disc space compared to a low bitrate Dolby Digital one. Thus less space for extras.

I myself would prefer the highest quality video and audio rather than compromise for the sake of adding more extras.

BTW, which BluRay movies have you seen have "close to no special features." The only one I've seen so far with barebones special features is the Japanese anime feature "Akira" whch has only some storyboards and trailers as extras. However, it has an outstanding Japanese Dolby True HD 5.1 soundtrack as well a Japanese 2.0 LPCM and an English Dolby 5.1.

I agree with error5. The space on BluRay discs should be used for better video quality and better audio quality.

I probably have more than 24 hours worth of extra features that I haven't seen yet on my BD collection. I've used BD-Live only on one movie. My last buy was The French Connection and it has more than 3 hours worth of extra features with a film that lasts 104 minutes.
