Hi, My apologies to those who may be offended by my ludite-esque call for help. I'm trying to download some torrents for the first time and it seems that I'm getting instances of the 'cannot render file' message . I followed (with interest) philraz's comments to brillianze but unfortunately, I think I'm now in a worse position than before. I've installed vlc, gspot (which now says the same as above, ffdshow, full codecs (was't sue if that a a rip off as means spending £6 to potentially find out it wont fix it), regcure, etc and am still getting the error message. Any thoughts from anyone who may be able to help resolve this?
Hi - it seems I've proved my ludite point within the first sentence :-) Basically I've been trying to download greys anatomy season 4 from various sites and each time the torrent downoads, then populated the fils in ".avi" format (according to the file extension type). But on reading through similar instances of my problem ther have been suggestions along the lines of:
1) Install: dvix, vlc, gspot, Klite etc etc (which I've done and get the same/similar error - vlc progress bar moves and finishes in 3 seconds without any visual or audio being played)
2) Installed gspot which returned the following (found example of same error on this site but says something about if it's a real avi the it's header should be "raff??"..but not sure how to check that...? http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/0...or-t325954.html 3) The file download hasn't completed (which it has according to free download manager)
3) Install regcure (which I did but it said the free tool would download (0) of the issues found - aint it always the way! and I'm cautious about paying hand over fist when I dont understand if it's bogus claims etc)
4) Reformat your hard drive (I have no means of doing a backup currently so this should be an absolutely last option).
5) I've installed avicodec too and tried to select a file to review the fourcc (codecs used?) but not really sure how to use
6) Have downloaded again from another site (in case was a fake avi) but now am getting no message but file won't oen at all so have used avicodec, and it's telling me the new files are V.codec name = XVID peg-4, A.1 codec name = MPEG layer-3, V.fourcc = XVID
The old files aren't retuning any informtion, but on the codecs page it's saying the following are enabled:
Divx is now giving me a mssage sayig This file does not appear to contain a video track - however it des this toevery download I've tried to make from 3 different sites....Are the odds really that bad on fake files or should I keep investigating...?
