ps2 reformatted HD now ps2 doesn't know the HD is there

Ok folks i'm really frustrated here and i need help. I formated the HD using winhiip now when I put the HD back in the PS2 it doesn't show up. I put the jumper in four different spots, thinking I had the jumper in the wrong position for master but no luck.
Here is what I did :
-set hd as slave
-formatted it via winhiip (following steps I found on the internet)
-copied an game image
-put the HD back in the PS2 4 times moving the jumper to a different location each time

I have since reformatted the HD put it back in the console with no games on it, still only shows the mem card

All that shows in my browser now is my mem card the HD did show before I started messing with it
