I bought one broke off ebay, got it working now I am wanting to mod it. I dont want to buy a mod chip for it. Has anyone come up with a way to do it using just sata card. I had a ms25 drive modded until it finally died on me. Any help would be aprreciated

Yes, flashing the 79 via sata has been possible for quite some time now. Here's a video tutorial.

I dont have a connector kit, how would I use my 360 to open the drive, do I leave the sata cable for the 360 hooked up until I need to open the drive or do I just swap them out when I need to. Or is it the power cable the runs the drive opening and closing. Just want to be positive before I do it.

Leave the power from the console plugged in to the drive and have the sata going from the drive to your pc. That way you can use your 360 to power the drive.

If you do it that way make sure to have the video cable plugged in to the back of your console. It doesn't have to also be plugged in to a tv, just the console itself. If a video cable isn't plugged in to the 360, it will shut off after a few minutes.
