Is it just me, or does this new partner thing just absolutely blows. This is game is no longer Resident Evil, they should have marketed this as something else. As having played virtually every Resident Evil game to date, I am really disappointed by this one. The whole "partner" thing just killed it for me. At least give people the option of turning it off, I hate how I have to babysit the CPU the entire time. She not only waste ammo or use healing at inappropriate times she the CPU is a liability when playing this game and it gets frustrating.
I wish game companies would stop ruining old franchises in an attempt to appeal to newer audiences. If you want people to play together, then include a separate multiplayer game, but don't structure you entire goddamn game around the assumption that people will want to play it with an online partner.
This game had so much potential and would have been much better if it didn't have that stupid bitch in it.
I give it a 7/10

i agree man. i now have to convince my friends that are not modded to atleast rent this game in the hopes that co-op helps the game play. it wont fix the controls though :(

My thoughts were the same when I 1st played it.. but after playing it for several hours now... I say IGN's review 9.0 is right on...

I think the OP needs some friends...
Really it's a lot better when you play with a friend. And to be honest this whole "CAPCOM BETRAYED ME!!!111" is pissing me off. RE5 is a good game once you pull that stick out.

I agree with the OP that the CPU assistant bird is not good. I do still think its a good game though and Im glad I aquired it ;)
I don't see why peeps are getting there knickers is a twist about it though. End of the day, its a game, that's it, just a game. People are entitled to there opinion either good or bad. either way, nothing to get stressed about.

In Resident Evil:The Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii you have a partner. So Resident Evil 5 is not the only game that has two people in it.

Right. But that was a game geared towards one Console, not the Next chapter in the legacy that is the RE series. I agree with the op, while it is a very fun game. It doesn't feel like an RE game. And I get the borrowed feeling, like ideas were taken from other games. For example, the incinerator (Dead Space did it first), and the whole dominant nature of Co-op and all the importance Capcom has stressed with it, not making it a selectable mode, but the structure of the entire game (Left 4 Dead).
Not a bad game, I'm excited to finish it, but not an RE Game.

Im not a fan of the co-op, nor the fact that at the end the game turns into a lame interpretation of Gears of War. It's plagued by a ton of problems, easy bosses, lame story, lame characters, etc. etc.
Capcom has already stated that RE6 will be a reboot of the franchise, I think they knew before the game launched that they dropped the ball on this one.

Seriously? I hadn't heard Capcom even confirm a RE6, though I haven't trolled all the big boy sites looking for such info...

i dont mind it. i think it works fine. same as most other co-ops. i think its a good game, and i too, agree with the 9.0 rating.

same here. I havent tried online co-op yet. the more you play the game the cooler it gets. you can tell her to cover and attack also.
Sometimes she gets in the way for a second but she moves when you bump into her. I do wish the camera wasnt so close though, i like seeing more of the surroundings.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I played most REs. I didn´t like when they abandoned the traditional zombies and went into "la plaga" thing.
I only play with friends, don´t play alone, but for me the new RE is just plain fun. Maybe a little different than the others, the story have lots of loose ends, but I can´t stop playing... 9,0 rating approved.

Wow, yeah agreed. Totally forgot how fu**ing annoying it was with silent monk enemies trying to steal ashley over and over. It's(RE5) pretty fun overall, but it in no way shape or form feels like an RE game, I just sniped an enemy on a heavy machine gun and the games got Resident Evil in the title...Great game but c'mon....

You guys are complaining about nothing. I agree that they should have made it that way but then that would not work with the obvious story. There is only a handful of you complaining about this game G4 included. The CO-OP is enjoyable with a partner and actually its the most enjoyable CO-OP game that I've played thus far. I can agree that its not the same Resident Evil we all now but the game has changed since they did the overhaul. Asking for single play is honestly asking for a lot. I didn't find my AI CO-OP to be all that bad and it saved my life plenty of times. All this complaining is LAME this is a great game with a small amount of flaws.

I am liking it more and more. I just got to chapter 3(yea i know that not far) and i saw the rocket launcher pickup and i was like ok time to go to bed and save this for tomorrow after work :)
Im playing thru the first time by myself on normal difficulty but then i plan to play co-op the harder one.
