DVD X Copy will not allow you to make a copy of a copy. For a movie, you should not do a multisession disc. Multisession is generally used for data discs.

actually you can make a copy of a copy

just not with DVD X copy

you can usually do it with any other program.

can you be more specific on your error message?

If you are using Nero to copy a DVD that you created with DVDX Copy, you should not have a problem. You may have a problem with Nero recognizing your DVD burner. That is why it wants to make an ISO file. Nero issued an update last week for version 5.5. Most players will be included now. I'm glad they created the update as I was not going to buy their useless update version 6. I paid enough already for 5.5.

well here some more info about my prob.. the way i do it is, i start to copy the dvd in Nero burning rom. (ver 6 ultra) and it starts to copy the dvd to an image file on the harddrive. during this process it reads, "read error" and then in a few secs..."burn failed" the copied dvd is ok, because i can play it in my standalone dvd player. not sure what to do next.....

thanks

has this happened with any other backups you have made with Xcopy?

and what media are you using?

also one more thing have you used any other software to try and backup a backup?

so far ive only made two backups with dvd x copy platinum. the first one i tried to re-copy, i figured out that the disc was messed up. i tried playing that one in my standalone player and it was all pixelated and the sound was off....so i figured...coaster number one. then i tried the second copy i made, and Nero started to copy the image and it didnt stop as fast. i copied about 60 percent of the disc before it had a "read error". i tried using that disc in a standalone and it worked fine.

im using memorex dvd+rs, with Nero 6.0 and dvd x copy 3.2.1 i have a feeling that the dvd x copy might have not copied either of the discs properly. but i really have no clue. any tips on copying with dvd x copy, or even how to fix this Nero situation?

thanks again!

Why don't just make an ISO out of your copy with DVD Decrypter and then burn with either Decrypter or Nero?

i dont believe that it is a Nero problem i believe it is your Xcopy, i have had in the past both versions (express & Platinum)

and i found them buggy at best it was kinda a hit and miss program for me, have you tryed DVDShrink? or DVD Decrypter?

they are both freeware and quite good also i have to suggest that -R discs are better for backup of commercial DVDs...

why dont u give it a try that way and let us no on this thread if it has worked, ok?

Nero will not copy Copy Protected disks. Decrypter is for DVD5's and Shrink is for DVD9's. They work much better than X-Copy.

A Dvd 5 is a single layered Dvd disk. 4.7 Gigs or so. A Dvd9 is a dual layered disk that holds almost double the data. They are two disks pressed together and are currently only made commecially. As of now we can only compress Dvd9's to fit on one disk, which sometimes causes a loss of quality. Very soon dual layered blanks will be available for burning. It may call for a new drive or a firmware update to write them.

The newer versions of DVD XCopy also encode the copy. When I say newer, prior to the version 3.0.

To copy a copy, use Decrypter - you don't have to worry about DVD-5 or DVD-9 as XCopy has already compressed the movie to fit a single DVD on the first backup :-)

As far as looking to rip a DVD for the first time - Always use DVD Shrink as it will handle both 5's and 9's.

MaDRuKuS Since you are making a copy of a copy you wouldn't have any quality loss... That's why I suggested that you copy your dvd files to your hard drive in the form of an image file (ISO with DVD Decrypter)

NO quality loss and then use Nero of DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO. Its very easy to do what you are trying to do.
