Hi guys. I have been looking to get a CFW PSP and i've been looking through some of the excellent guides on this forum to try and get an idea as to what i need to do and what CFW actually is.

As I understand it, custom firware allows you to run all homebrew like official firmware version 1.5. However unlike official firmware version 1.5 it has all the functionality of later official firmwares. I have a few questions though

1. Is this guide all I need to install custom firmware on a PSP 2000? I'm assuming all i need to is use the pandora battery and magic memory stick as instructed then upgrade it to the latest version of CFW

2. Do I want the latest version of CFW? I'm assuming that there's no benefits of using earlier versions of CFW or OFW

3. What is the UPMS-V4 (Sapphire) Installer and will it be relevant to me?

4. What is the devhook and will it be relevant to me?

5. What is the 1.5 kernel and will it be relevant to me?

thanks

1. Thats correct. As long as your motherboard is of the right model. What firmward did your PSP come with?
2. Personally, I think its a good idea to stay up to date with cfw. Besides you can always go back to an earlier one if you like. :)
3. That program is just another way to upgrade from ofw to cfw. I would suggest just using the other guide that you mentioned.
4. devhook is kinda obsolete, you wont need it because of...
5. ..the 1.5 kernel that comes with M33. *read onto next post*

The 1.5 kernel makes it so that even with the latest cfw, you can use homebrew apps/games that arent compatible with the the latest.
I hope that i was of some assistance. :)

oh and sorry about the double-post; i've only got my PSP for internet. :p

Thank you for your reply casurratt, my PSP came with official system software version 3.72 (that's what it says on the menu). I'm assuming that'll be ok

as for M33, from my understanding it uses the kernel from ofw 1.5. this means it effectively rusn anything you can run on 1.5 and does not need devhook, is that correct?
