GTA, Oblivion and Fallout 3 are my main concern. The first two I can't even play on disc because it freezes at random and the disc spinning is beyond loud
if the discs are scratched badly that can cause freezes and skips. i would install to HDD. i have heard of people with discs damages so bad they wont even start the game at all so they go a copy from a friend or rented and used that to install to hdd and then were able to start the game with their scratched disc no problem.
yeah sounds like the last xbox i fixed, it would run fine for awhile then it would get a bit slower and then just randomly it would freeze. I never got it to give me the rrod after that but i did the penny fix and overheated it and it solved the problem. More than likely it's not your optical drive causing the freezing issues.
No. Installing to the hard drive does not help freezing. I'm at the point that I can't even get through an entire demo without my 360 freezing and the damn bastard won't RROD on me. Sometimes it will freeze on me if I just turn it on and go to the dashboard.
Sorry, I'm out of the loop for a while, but what's up with this installing on a hard drive. I tried searching for it but I kept getting old posts that said no you cannot back up at all. . . .
so does this mean that you can back up a game to the hard drive but you still need the disc to play?

Yes on the new M$ dashboard, there is an option to install a game to your harddrive. You will still need the disk, the main benifit it that its alot quiter. Also if people are having problems with slightly scratched disks this may help.
