Obviuosly I am new at this. Does anyone know where I can find a guide or can you tell me how(if possible) you can rip and DVD and still have the interactual things such as the special features, deleted scenes, etc. stuff on the DVD and have it work properly?
Thanks, Skot0123

If you're talkin about dvdsvcd/svcd then no, it wouldn't be best to even try to keep this added features, but if you have a dvd burner then I'm sure that you could keep the menu and extras.

Obviously blank dvd-r media would not have the same capacity as the dvds you buy but, the great thing about dvd is you can re'encode the video and the audio.

I don't work much with dvd-r at all so I don't know a lot about it. DVD's as you may know, have a movie file (.vob) for there menu as well as vobs for the actual movie (and add-ons if you're wondering). They also have ifo files.

I never tried ifo editing (i must at some stage) but, for most dvds, if you re-encode the video and audio to lower bit rates, you will need to change some settings in the ifo files. This is because ifo files specify movie length, audio streams, bit rates etc... ifo files are used for your movie and your extras. Your extras are usually named something like VTS_03_1.VOB. It really depends on what region dvd you have.

You should check out afterdawns massive collection of guides about dvd for expert info.

Sorry for the second post but a good idea if you are ripping to vcd or svcd would be to keep the extras on a seperate cd. If your interested, then let me know what your ripping to (eg vcd/svcd/dvd-r/divx), your encoding software (not required cause i'll tell u what im using), your burning software and the media you're burning to (eg 700mb/80 cdr).
