Hello All,
I am new to the whole wii moding scene, and after some research and forum surfing I decided to get a Wiikey 2, and it will arrive in a day or so. My big question is as follows....
I have read a lot of the guides on your site and the one about bricking is what i am concerned about. It states on the Wiikey 2 site that the chip has:
- Region override for Wii and Gamecube games - Direct Boot of Wii original, import, and backup games
- Direct Boot of Gamecube original, import, and backup games
- Direct boot of homebrew in GC mode
Does this mean that I do not have to worry about a burned game bricking my system? Or do I still need to scrub the regions from the disc's?
If there is a thread on this I apologize, I was unable to locate it with my searches. Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Bricking only occurs if you try playing an out of region wii game on your wii that contains a more recent firmware than the one already on your console. Out of region gamecube games cannot update the console so cant cause problems.
If you're only playing games from your home region then theres zero chance of bricking.
If you're trying to play out of region games then you should brickblock them to keep them from running updates, but then if they need a newer firmware than you have or contain required IOS patches the games wont run. They also might not work due to the differences between NTSC and PAL TV resolutions.
It's always better to get backup games from your wii's home region.
I got brick blocker, it told me the games i was looking at were Europe PAL's and I have a USA system. So I clicked patch and it said completed but when I check the file info again it still says Erurope PAL. Did it work?
