Hey guys,

I am currently running 3.90 M33-3 with an 8gb stick. I have a phat white PSP, I think it is from Japan (PSP-100). My situation is that it's been a while since I used my PSP due to a broken screen. I just ordered my new screen and will install it as soon as it comes in. I want to upgrade from 3.90 M33-3 to 5.00 M33-6. I forgot how to do everything. Can someone guide me into this step by step?? You don't have to go in to too much detail. Once I start doing it I am sure I will remember and understand more clearly.

My other question is, if I am running 5.00 what game should I put in my PSP to run games from my memory stick. I had "The Simpsons Game" in my PSP when I ran the 3.90 but that game was lost. I picked up "Patapon" because that was newer than the Simpsons. Do I need a game with 5.00 software. I'm lost.

Another question is, what advantages will I have from using 5.00? Anything new and exciting. I have been out of the scene for a while now.

Thanks guys!!

other then homebrew and plugin upgrades that have advanced nicely since 3.90 especially cxmb's ctf themes sony added a quick google search and access to the playstation store to download demos and buy games and download them through wifi and thats pretty much it in my opinion the best advantages are in the latest or new versions of homebrew and plugins like custom firmware extender and irshell

Thanks for the response Shaggy,

I did a little more research on youtube and came across a pretty self explanatory video about how to upgrade. It looked very easy. Basically it was saying to use the installer and finds your PSP's drive when you hook it up to your computer through usb. It all looked very simple.

Now the when you said, "if you press select you can get to the m33 vsh menu and change umd iso mode to m33 driver or the sony driver and not need a umd in". Sounds fairly simple. Only question is when should I hit select? On the home screen?

I saw a few cool apps that I have never seen before. For example, PSPTube. I downloaded Version 1.9 and hoping thats the newest and most stable version. I saw an IPhone app. Is that worth the download and installation, or just for looks?

I am very excited to get my psp up and running again. A ton of new games have been released and I can't wait to play them. Like I said before the last game I had running was the Simpsons Game (horrible game) any other games you guys recommend? I have a few that are on my list that I heard are coning out very soon.... Such as

Little Big Planet
MotoStorm
DragonBall
Patapon 2
Assassins Creed

Well thanks again Shaggy,

Oh yeah, one last thing. Can I update straight from 5.00 M33 to 5.00 M33-6 or do I have to go up from 2-3-4-5-6?

Thanks again :)

yea you press it at the home screen aka the xmb or vsh.
psptube is one of my favorite homebrew as well though the iphone app is one of the many crappy shells or portals for psp its best to stick with irshell imo.

edit:
yea you can skip them

Thanks Shaggy! I'll let you know how everything goes when my screen comes in.

Oh and Installing a new screen in a PSP is the easiest thing in the world in case anyone has been wondering or has the same problem and they only cost around $20 USD on EBay.

i made a few mistakes when i replaced my first screen i took off and threw away that black sticky strip around the screen not knowing the replacement didn't come with it so i use to get dust in between the screen all the time and i also bought mine for like $50 because i didn't know i could get the screen and backlight separate but that was a long time ago and we all have to start somewhere.

I still have the broken screen with the black foam on it. How do I get it off? I need a backlight? I don't see one on my old screen?

Oh, the one I ordered came with a backlight :P

NEW SHARP LCD SCREEN DISPLAY + BackLight for PSP 1000

I was slightly scared there. So all I have to figure out now is how to get that foam strip off and onto the new screen.

i've never looked at it close enough or looked for the replacement parts for a phat to tell but with my first slim it wasn't easy to see it was just a thin plastic in the back of the screen held together by a white plastic frame, and i didn't realize it until i found people selling the parts separate on ebay later on and i disassemble it and found it and to get off the sticky frame from the screen i would use a hobby knife or razor and just peel it off, its okay if you cut or rip it just as long as you can stick it on your new screen without gaps for dust to get in.

I was looking on EBay and the slim and phat screens are different. But they all come with backlights now. I am going to wait for my screen to come in to take to foam strip off because I don't want to let the sticky glue on it dry. Thanks for the advice.

Yo Shaggy or anyone online,

I installed the new screen on my PSP. It works, had to make some duct tape adjustments, due to one of the plastic casings snapping off on the circuit board. But other than that my PSP is up and running. I also installed the 5.00 M33-6 CFW. Also worked out perfectly. The PSPTube is loaded. Works like a charm. Theres only one thing I notice that is kind of fishy. I have an 8 GB memory stick. Why is it look like its empty but can only hold 4 GB os .iso games??? I have always wondered that. Where did the other 4 gigs go? And what games work with the N64 emulator I tried Road Rash, Smash Bros, and Body Harvest. Smash bros worked but it was slow and the other 2 games were crash and burn for me. Is the a list circulating around?

Thanks Again,

Punky
