If you get rrod from NXE then it was going to happen soon regardless. I didnt get rrod from NXE but i did get screwed up graphics. I stopped using the 360 and did xclamp fix and that solved it and i havent gotten rrod yet. That was like 5 months ago

You will need NXE going forward so its best to update now whilst your still under warranty

those are both software related and have NOTHING to do with RROD. do a search, and understand what the RROD is, then you wouldn't have to worry about asking another silly question like this.

you may consider changing your title to:

NXE != RROD
or
NXE <> RROD
or
NXE =/=
(=/=, <>, != are ways to express "not equal")

Because it does not cause the rrod, as the guys above told you. My opinion is this... there was a large update a year or so before the NXE and a bunch of people got rrod when they updated, then when NXE was announced people got worried again. These fall updates, and dashboard updates are pretty large in size,(for an xbox anyway). Therefore the box works at or near its full potential when downloading and installing them. This additional work may have accelerated the rrod for some. But it would have happened anyway.

OP... when you do update to NXE please note if your fan speed changes. I think the first large dash update let the fan work as normal based on input from the thermocouple or rtd near the cpu. If I am not mistaken, when downloading or installing the NXE regardless of cpu temperature the fan should increase in speed. I believe this is what all of my consoles have done when getting NXE from the internet, but not when installing it on customers consoles via my hard drive. Maybe this is from the increased heat or maybe it is from a small script written from XBL to increase fan speed as a precaution while making such a large update.

just to add my 2¢

A lot of people were worried about the rrod comming back with the release of the NXE. At first it was believed that the improved dash caused the rrod and caused the xbox to overheat faster. Later we discovered that the rrod was going to come either way. The launch consoles are the ones that had the problems to begin with, these are called the xenon box's.

The xenon box's had a few design flaws from the begining. The two metal standoffs on the tray were a bit too high causing the motherboard to flex.

Here's a couple pictures to help you understand

If you look at the red areas in the second picture you can easily see what is causing the rrod.

So with this said if you have a xenon or launch console then you're already doomed it's just a matter of time before you get the rrod. It's a easy fix though, and microsoft doesn't fix this problem from the refurb factory. If you have a hdmi xbox then you shouldn't worry. These xbox's have the processors glued down to the board and do not have the issue that's described above. Though don't get too comfortable because obviously the other xbox editons have their problems.

I know a couple people with launch consoles that are used everyday and still don't have the rrod. So you could be lucky like one of them, but the majority will get the rrod. The majority of xbox's that i fix are the xenon consoles.

The last couple consoles i fixed didn't even have the nxe installed. So good luck with your xbox, if you have a warranty you shouldn't have much to worry about.

C4RN you juat reminded me that i meant to tell you i did grind down the standoffs on that xenon that had rrod 3 times and seemed like it couldnt be fixed. well after i grinded the standoffs and cut out the rear metal mesh plus removed the shielding on the top cover of the case, Plus i removed the erasers from the bottom of the memory chips and added 3 pennies wrapped in electric tape all around. lol PLUS i took some memory heatsinks from a video card and attached them to the top of the front memory chips plus one on the HANA chip and the Southbridge. I overheated it for a good 20 mins and it worked and has been standing up to my nephews daily 5 hour COD4 and COD5 sessions for the past 2-3 weeks. I do expect it to die again at some point but i was glad to get it running again. seriously the best 50 bucks i ever spent lol.

Sorry to semi-hijack the thread
