BenQ stuck in Vender mode...

Hey guys.
I'm having a flashing problem...
I bought a used 360 off ebay with a bad disk drive (boots, but won't read disks.) I saved the orig.bin file off it, but it already had ixtreme 1.5 on it - and I read somewhere that you can't just clone an ixtreme firmware to a new drive and have it work (and I'm wondering if this is my problem, or if that's b.s.)
I got a "new" benq drive (matching the one in the xbox) off ebay as well...
Which arrived with a broken warranty seal, but that's a different story.
I tried flashing the new drive, had a write failure in DOSFlash, and couldn't get it to eject or re-enter vendor mode.
Being ambitious, and seeing as how the warranty seal was broken anyway, I decided to pull the board out of the old broken drive and put it into the new working one.
I accomplished this - no problems.
But again, being ambitious (and technically stupid at this point) I tried to flash the new drive/old board with 1.51.
Now it won't eject and I get the bottom right red light (error 65).
I've been using JungleFlasher and have mixed success with it - sometimes it fails, sometimes it succeeds in the write and verification... (Only locked up with 0.50 - .51 hasn't locked up, just doesn't successfully read, erase, or flash and verify sometimes).
But the drive never responds to the eject button... which I'm guessing is the cause of my problems.
If the write and verification both succeed - is there something I'm missing?
I'm pressing "outro" - that doesn't seem to help either.
Even if the CD key is wrong (which I doubt - since I have the original .bin from the broken drive which booted fine - even though it was already ixtreme 1.5), the xbox should eject the drive - assuming it is properly flashed - correct?
The drive recognizes and flashes with the drive open, closed, or 1/2 open.
It's like it's stuck in vendor mode.
And ideas what's going on - or if/what I can do to fix this?
Thanks!

What kind of OS system are you using?
What kind of SATA chipset?
In JF and DOS, what status are you getting.. 0x73?
Do you get information about the chip properties?

The answer to most of those questions is, "I don't know."
It's 32-bit Vista... onboard SATA (no idea of the chipset - it's a HP if that means anything to anyone...) and yes, I'm getting the 0x73.
Unfortunately it's not my computer - and I haven't had access to it since posting the original questions, so I've been hesitant to reply without the requested info.
I'm fairly certain that the "Drive Properties" box was empty...
The Flash Chip Properties box was populated, but I'm not sure what the data was, but the 0x73 was there in both Dosflash and JungleFlasher.
I ordered a VIA pci card (that will have to go back in the Vista box when I can use it - as I only have my laptop...) off Ebay.
It's not here yet, but I'll see if I can get back to the computer tonight to come up with the rest of the data.
I don't remember the Drive Properties box re-populating after clicking "Outro" so I'm thinking maybe the exit command isn't going through properly.
Is this something the VIA chipset could fix? I'm still fuzzy on the chipset thing - my thoughts were that if the chipset didn't "support the drive" that it simply wouldn't show up/be available/flash at all.
Is this not right?
Thanks for the quick reply.

My guess is that the HP is an Intel chipset. I have a ICH7 chipset but haven't had much luck with it though. But since you have ordered a VIA card, that should solve all your issues. I have flashed all 4 drive types with the VIA and haven't had a problem. I would recommend installing the 530c drivers for the VIA card as they are the most stable for flashing. If you run into problems, just remove the viamraid.sys file from C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder and hold on to it.
Once you have got the VIA and 530c driver installed. Open up JF and go to DVDkey tab and check mark the VIA only box. Go to the MTK flash tab and scan through the ports until the info of your BenQ drive shows in the lower left corner. Once it does show, you have the correct SATA port so you will want to click Intro/Device ID. It will prompt you to click OK and it that point, power cycle the drive quick. Should return 0x73 status and then click read. It will load that bin into source, autoload ix1.51 and spoof, then you can write the firmware. Click Outro/ATA Reset to release the drive from Vendor Mode. Once you have done that, put the BenQ back into the XBOX and test it out.

Thanks for the reply.
Still waiting on the PCI card.
>_<
It's good to know that it should be a sound investment.
;)
Broken xbox on ebay? Ok. I can fix that.
Broken 360? AAAAARRRRHHH!!!! >_<
Of course - after the first one, I'm sure I'll want to try it with another.
I hate being a geek sometimes. It gets expensive :-/

Well...
Still no luck =(
Though this link was invaluable... as the computer kept freezing when I plugged in the drive...
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=677718
I'm still getting the same thing - successful flashing, successful checks, and proper close outs of dos-flash...
With the new VIA card (and a different computer running XP - the Vista Box kept freezing - before I found that link... haven't tried the vista one again though... Doubt it'd perform any differently.) JungleFlasher won't see the drive at all.
Intro fails, read (wrong mode since intro fails), unlock doesn't work, and outro just sort of sits there... until I hit another button... like it's not doing anything at all and doesn't really care to.

Is that last bit ok? Think that's where I'm getting my problems from?
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Try disabling the VIA card, navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and remove the viamraid.sys file, then re-enable the the VIA card.
At this point in JF, go ahead and connect your BenQ drive to the same sata port you used. Make sure that same sata port is selected under the MTKflash tab. Click Device ID, and a prompt should come up. Once you click ok you should see dots go across the screen and you need to disconnect the drive really quick and plug it back in really quick. This is known as the vcc trick.

Here is what I did with having that same problem.
"All I had to do was set the DVD drive in the right position, instruct the intro, then it would recognize the vendor mode. Then just write the target with my key and the 1.6 custom firmware and just instruct the outro to take it out of vendor mode. Simple!"

Well... I gave up for a while...
I just tried again tonight and still, nothing.
Jungleflasher won't recognize the drive at all.
DosFlash32 DOES recognize the drive, DOES read, DOES erase, DOES write...
But the drive still won't eject or insert automatically.
I made the 360 Modification USB boot drive - ran through perfectly... no problems.
Read, clone, erase, write....
And still nothing.
Any other suggestions?

Still not working.
Any suggestions on how to get the Eject button to work again???
[02:41] <Kalash> So... I'm having a small problem...
[02:41] <cj2> cj2
[02:41] <cj2> sorry was away
[02:41] <Kalash> Jungle flasher won't recognize my drive at all... PortIO is installed, DosFlash32 works great, and the 360 Modification USB runs perfectly.
[02:42] <Kalash> The problem is - even after a successful read/erase/write cycle, my drive won't eject or suck in.... and the 360 doesn't recognize it at all :-/
[02:42] <Kalash> It's a BenQ if that matters... >_<
[02:43] <Kalash> Any thoughts?
[02:45] <cj2> i was told by Ldngeez to disable the vt6421 raid drivers from control panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and then move c:/windows/system32/drivers/viamraid.sys somewhere and reboot the system and try again
[02:45] <cj2> i didn't need to do that with my Benq, but i had to do that for my Samsungs
[02:46] <Kalash> I'll give it a shot... the 360 Mod USB thing though is a DOS boot disk...
[02:46] <Kalash> Shouldn't matter about the drivers...
[02:46] <cj2> but getting rid of viamraid, sys seems to make it more compatible with all the drives

[03:33] <Kalash> It's a brand new replacement drive....
[03:33] <+Ldngeez> was it working before?
[03:33] <Kalash> Or... was... 3 months ago when I started on this.
[03:33] <+Ldngeez> did u check it?
[03:34] <Kalash> It ejected the first time, took a disk, sounded ok...
[03:34] *** wwJFnet53 has joined #JungleFlasher
[03:34] <Kalash> Flashed it - and it never ejected again :-/
[03:34] <+Ldngeez> hmmmm
[03:34] <Kalash> The old/bad drive did the same thing - cept it does short spins and sounds like the thing that ballances the disk is screwed up.
[03:34] *** tezza192 has quit IRC: Read error: Operation timed out
[03:34] <+Ldngeez> what does it say on the sticker on the drive?
[03:35] <Byzmarque> is it pretty hard to brick a sammy then?
[03:35] <Kalash> VAD6038
[03:35] <Kalash> MS Part No X800474-006
[03:35] <+Ldngeez> yea pretty hard
[03:35] <Byzmarque> i was getting worried :p
[03:36] <Byzmarque> the things i went through to get a floppy drive were mental, and i was just doing the powercycle completely wrong!
[03:36] <+Ldngeez> lol
[03:36] <Kalash> Course - there's some caution, lazer product stuff too, but that can'tbe important.
[03:36] <+Ldngeez> shoulda come here first
[03:36] *** Tarawa has left #JungleFlasher
[03:36] <+Ldngeez> no
[03:36] <Kalash> FWVersion is 64930C
[03:37] <Kalash> I don't suppose anyone has a copy of that firmware I could flash back to, do they? ;)
[03:37] *** Gehaktbal has joined #JungleFlasher
[03:38] <Byzmarque> right lets see if this has all worked!
[03:38] *** wwJFnet53 is now known as lbertrc77
[03:38] *** lbertrc77 is now known as albertrc7
[03:38] <albertrc7> hi all
[03:39] <+Ldngeez> hi
[03:40] <Kalash> How many times can you re-write the rom chip before it gives out? ;) I'm kinda just doing it for fun now >_<
[03:40] <+Ldngeez> cant say ive ever tested lol
[03:41] <Kalash> I do'nt suppose that it cooperating at the start would change anything if I used the USB modification thing now... but.... why not, right?
[03:41] <+Ldngeez> the fw is on the drive
[03:41] <Kalash> I know.... but.... >_<
[03:41] <+Ldngeez> ur reading back and its there

So the drive is still not ejecting? Does it sound like the drive tries to eject, or when you press the eject button is there nothing at all?

There's nothing.
No noise, no anything.
And after exiting Vender Mode, JF reads, "No Drive Detected!" under Drive Properties.
If I do the intro again, every once in a while it automatically recognizes - most of the time I need the power cycle.
It recognizes every time as soon as the power's plugged back in though - which is a huge improvement over where I was when I started this thread ;)
It reads perfectly - matches everything in Source to Target in JF.
I still get the bottom right red ring when I hook it back up to the xbox. :(
