I recall the first time I cracked open an xbox360. Literally "cracked" open the first one. Shortly thereafter I developed a bit of "xbox dexterity" and like many you can have one completely disassebled in under 2 minutes, flashed in under 5. Anyhow I have never had a problem with either of the two working PS3's that I own, but an xbox customer of mine brought me their PS3 tonight. "Will not power on". It is a USA PS3 with a CECHH mobo. I truly didn't know where to begin. Right off the bat I found the hard drive door but still had no idea how to disassemble the case. Well to make a long story short, I found a single security torx screw under the "tamper proof" sticker and away I went. The mother board had "liquid damage" and it appears that when the intial "short" from the liquid occurred a bunch of surface mount resistors blew off the board. I suspect the short caused enough heat in those isolated areas to melt the solder of those resistors, etc. That is actually pretty common with "short circuits", as it is an unintentional welding effect that takes place.

If any of you would like to contrast your experiences of the Xbox 360 to PS3 from a repair stand point I would love to hear it.

Oh last thing.... the heatsinks and fans are rather amazing!!! Pictures don't do them justice. The fan is really like 10 inches in diameter!!! ( I didn't measure it, just guessing). The heatsinks are a work of art!!!
