PS2 modchip dying or bad connection?

After a year of inactivity, I played on my PS2 again with Duo 2 SE modchip. HOwever, it takes about 50 tries to get my backedup games to boot. Opened it up, found a loose soldered wire and a couple wires that got squished flat, resoldered the loose wire and decided to leave the squished wire as is, put it all back, and now same problem, works some times out of many tries....

Can anyone tell me if its a wiring issue or if the modchip reach the end of its lifetime?

PS. Modchip installed in early 2005...

Sounds like cold soldering joints or... bad soldering job, since a wire came loose, normally it shouldn't. But chips do die, never used Duo chips there so i wouldn't know.
