Wii disc freezes PC with GDR-8163B

Hi Guys,
I have posted my little problem on another forum but have not had any responses - Hopefully someone here can help!
My problem is that when I insert an original wii disc the pc freezes and I cannot reboot without resetting. Also PC fails to boot if disc remains in the drive on start up.
OK some background info...
Model GDR-8163B, firmware0B26
Itried a fresh install of XP pro with only .net 2.0 installed (no service packs)
tried launching rawdump 2.0 first
disabled autorun and autoplay
transfer mode is in 'DMA if available' on all 3 primary IDE channels
drive jumper set to slave
looked for alternate firmware but have not found any that are compatible with the drive

Same problem here
I even have same problem using friidump
when my windows was freshly installed I had no problems it seems something installed after is causing this.
Some say it might be anti virus or firewall apps. I tried disabling everything but no help
