How to boot HD Loader without disk?

Hello everyone, I am new to PS2 modding and have a quick question.

I read through all of the available documentation that I could find for using HD Loader to backup your PS2 games to a hard drive but I cannot find out how to boot HD Loader without the HD Loader disk.

Reading through this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/369291 gives many references to a memory card exploit to do this but no one actually relates as to how this is done.

If anyone could assist me I would be much obliged :)

The best memory card exploit is fmcb 1.8

There are many ways to install it, the methods are posted here in these guides
