MKV file too big?

I've got a Western Digital WD TV HD Media player which I'm using with a Western Digital 1TB My Book hard drive... I'm wanting to basically fill it with films from dvd and MKV files so I can pack away the discs...

However, I have a MKV file which is 8GB - the MyBook Hard drive wont allow me to copy a file this large to it...

Whats the best way for me to move this to the drive? I imagine I'm going to have to split it? Will this leave me with a film that I have to keep selecting the next part to play?

Any help would be soooo appreciated as I'm very new to MKV files and hard drives of this size lol

Sadly I wont be able to give you an amazing technical answer but if your 1Tb drive is formatted for FAT32 you are limited to around 4gb per file. Can your HD player support NTFS? in that case reformat the drive in that guise and 8gb .mkv files will not be an issue.

If you dont mind splitting use MKV2VOB which is freeware to split that in to two files. Not perfect but its a solution which everyone uses to bypass hdtv movies on PS3

Yes he is correct. All external drives come formatted FAT32. You need to reformat the drive in NTFS right out of the box or AnyDVD won't let you rip the movie to that drive. It's really annoying but it must be done.

well I've not really put much onto the drive as yet (years of rushing in taught me to wait lol) so formatting it wont be an issue....

Is there a downside to using NTFS?
