Hi. I owned the SCPH-77001 model slim ps2 with no mod. My ps2 is now can able to start up and go into browser screen and able to access to memory card. But can't read any disc and disc motor won't spin. This happen after I mistakenly put in wrong AC cord into my ps2 which is higher watts than original ps2 cord. Yeah I know I feel stupid too.

I smell the burning from my ps2 and I shut it off. I wait for it cool down but when I reboot it the disc won't read.

I'm thinking about replacing the whole laser deck with this.

My question is is there fuse in new slim motherboard like old one? I also worry about is there a chance motherboard's chip get effected in this situation? Even tho I can boot my ps2 I still worry about burn out chips. After replace the whole deck I won't have to do any soldering right?

Thank a lot.

I really don't know what other AC cord you could have plugged into the PS2.

I am thinking your burned more than just a fuse, and finding what fuses could take some time.

Probably cheaper for you to find another slim PS2, than try to fix this one.

Plus the laser deck for 77001 is different

Unless I am wrong. I think the laser is the same though.
But perhaps the other laser deck would work too.

Thanks for the reply. Actually I plugged it in my laptop cord since it is same color(yellow port) and size too. I find it weird but it is the truth.

Right now my ps2 can start up and can able to read memory card but I really want to know it might blown off the fuse in motherboard or not. Or the fuse is only in AC adaptor of the slim ps2. On the other hand, I could have blown the DVD/CD chip I think.

I will try to open the motherboard and see what it happened.

Oh ok, I forgot the slim ac was like that. I never unplug it, so I was thinking of my FAT V7 and it is totally different.

I can't really help you out on the slim motherboard.

I have a ps2 repair guide that shows how to check the fuses up to a V7 PS2, but nothing higher.

Yeah you may even see something once you open it up. Well I hope you get it working.

When you smell something burning from a PS2, i would think it is more than just a fuse. Have you try making it read cd instead of dvds? i would think the main fuse should of blew, but it turns on so its weird. I dont have a diagram either, just use a multimeter and check the fuses. The fuses are marked on the motherboard starting with PS (ie. PS1, PS2, PS13, PS14) they dont go in order, they skip numbers and there only on the bottom on slims.

As with a laser, the laser deck smokyrain posted is right, there are two different laser types that i know of (some have different model number, but look the same and interchangable), they are randomaly placed though. (i have seen different laser (deck) in same model ps2s.)
