Hey guys,

Bought a chipped 360 with RROD a couple weeks ago for pretty cheap. The only information I got from the guy was that it was chipped to play back-ups. In hindsight I really should have asked for more information but really wasn't thinking.

Managed to get RROD fixed with no problems at all and on the back of the motherboard I noticed 3 band-aids cut into squares with padding underneath next to one of the x-clamps. Im guessing that this is for the mod chips.

Anyway I was just wondering if there is anything else I needed to know before I made back-ups and if there is anything I should know about modchips. What are the benefits and cons of modchips over firmware flashing?

Finally, don't really care about xbox live but would like to get DLC for games as and when there available. Am I more likely to get banned with modchips than firmware.

Sorry for coming off as completely clueless but was just hoping to get some help from people who knew the ins and outs of the subject.

Thanks for reading!

the bandaids are MS's attempt at cooling the ram. they are from the factory and have nothing to do with a chip.

If you xbox is chipped then the chip will typically be inside the dvd drive.

The major differences between chips and firmware are:

Some chips can only run games patched with certain files, for example NME chips only play NME games ( I think, someone will chime in on this if I am wrong)

Firmware update is far superior. They play nearly everygame you can get off of Usenet. Also there is an active team that works on firmware updates as new problems arise. As for chips, you have to wait for the manufacturer of the chip to release a program, if you are not a developer yourself.

My vote goes to FIRMWARE FLASHING!!!!
