I have some movies in the avi format. I can get about 5 movies to a data dvd. My house DVD player will play the avi's but my car DVD player will not.

I have some avi's around 700meg and some around 250meg. No matter which avi files I use I can only get one movie on the DVD.

Is there a way to convert more than 1 avi to DVD and all the converted avi's fit on one DVD(4.7)?

Thanks
Jim

It's down to the run time, minutes and hours,
which you haven't discussed.

Assuming it a typical 90 minute movie, you can probably put two on the
DVD. More than that, and you start getting into low bit-rates and
the quality will drop significantly.

The average lenth of the movies I have are 90 minutes each.

Let me ask this, what does the software look at when creating a DVD movie, is it the file size or lenght of move? I tried to convert a 90 minute avi(250meg) to DVD and it used up most of the space on the DVD. You would think that I could get 10 plus movies of that size but I guess it does not work that way when converting avi to DVD.

Thanks

When converting to a *proper DVD*, only the running length
of the source files (hours & minutes) is of significance -
not the MB of the files.

If you had a player that could play the avi (divx/xvid) files
directly (as more of them can do now), you can do what you
suggested.

But now you're not creating a proper DVD, you're just writing the
avi to the disk as data - no encoding/conversion takes place.

Perhaps you should invest in such a player ? Saves a lot of time
and space, since no encdoing is required, and you can fit many more
movies per disk.

I use a program called "ConvertXtoDVD 3". It works very well and will automatically put titles on the first screen.

Thanks for your help. My daugher just had a DVD player put in her car and it only plays DVD's. It will not play avi's. Well, she will just have to do a DVD for each movie.

Thanks again for all your help
