I have been patiently waiting for a new update to fix my semi bricked Wii.I have a ntsc wii that was accidently semi bricked with animal crossing(pal), so i believe it is now 3.4e.I have a message on the wii to update to 4.0 and when i tried, it still came to the dreaded opera screen. My question is this,Why won't it update? or do i have to wait on a game with 4.0 on it?My games work fine, i just want to play online again.

ntsc wii
wiikey2 (no homebrew)

thanks

For you to upgrade you have to manually go to the wii setting and initiate an upgrade. Wii shopping will not load since it needs the the new IOS. If you have purchase from Nintendo you can fix by loading/installing IOS60.

There's another method which you don't need to go the Wii setting by using the Waninkoko upgrader.

go here and used method 2:
make sure that you have cios rev8 or Rev7. Otherwise you will brick your Wii. If not sure if you have rev8 just re-install.

The homebrew channel installer ISO only works if you're on 3.2 or lower, so unfortunately thats not an option for someone semi-bricked on 3.4.

If you really did semi-brick from animal crossing though then you're only on 3.3, not 3.4. Meaning you can use one of the newer games out now, like sonic and the black knight or mad world, to update to 3.4U.

Ah, guess you really are semi-bricked on 3.4 then. In that case it's like fiber said and you'll have to wait for a game with 4.0.
