hi, thanks to all who help. as you can see i'm new here. i didn't find any help looking around so i decided to post a new thread.
for gamecube games can i use full size DVD-R of any make? or mini-DVD-R? Is the file suppose to be in ISO format or the other GCM?
for wii games, can i just strait download and extract it and push "write image file to disc". can i use any DVD-R for it also? i have maxell DVD-R's.
do i need that dvd player channel, or is gamma or gator enough?
thanks again, i know i posted alot for my first time. but i wouldn't have posted if i saw it in the threads.

I was able to find your answer here in afterdawn coz i also want to play GC on my Wii so just few clicks and using key words:
So i will answer your question since you are a newbie:
1)for gamecube games can i use full size DVD-R of any make? or mini-DVD-R? Is the file suppose to be in ISO format or the other GCM?
A: Used DVD -R either the mini or the regular one, i just used regular verbatim DVD -R.If the file name end with *.gcm then replace the extention from GCM to ISO. then you can burn the iso with IMGburn or NERO. This works for me.not sure about Maxwell but i suggest get a Verbatim -R.
Below is a smilar question: i used the search with keyword :how to play GC.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/503195
now how to load apps and play gamecube? go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/735325
DO NOT execute the WARNING on the forum above.
procedure is well written for newbie so read step by step. do not skip. if not sure what to do, just stop and asked question. People to tend to brick their Wii thinking it is ok to skip and proceed with the next step.
for your other questions, read the sticky notes:

Did you install CmiosV3, Are you able to install the CiosV8?
For the Wii channel No changes , just used Wii Gamma Backup Launcher to load the game.

Using IMGburn Yes you can push and Write Image file to disk.[/b][/color]

You don't need the DVD channel if you have HBC APP Gamma thats fine ,there is also a Gamma channel which is the same.

what is your region and firmware version? did you follow the guide step by step?
Are you able to play Wii Backup games? When you launch Wii gator are you able to see IOS 249 at the bottom of your screen? what is the exact error? Media can be a potential problem used Verbatim -R or Taiyo Yuden.

Don't put any game. Launch the Gamma loader in Homebrew Channel.
You should be able to see IOS at the bottom of your screen if you installed properly. Are you able to intall WADS? See the screen shot in the thread.

You used the Gamma Channel to open I said used the HBC then launch the Gamma backup launcher.
You skip this I believe:
Installing WiiGator Backup Launcher 0.3 gamma:
like what i've said no skipping: refer to my first respond to you.
are you able to load IOS36-64-v1042.wad?
"procedure is well written for newbie so read step by step. do not skip. if not sure what to do, just stop and asked question. People to tend to brick their Wii thinking it is ok to skip and proceed with the next step."

Then you are good to go.

Try to load on Wii game first before gamecube.
Media can be a potential problem used Verbatim -R or Taiyo Yuden.
burn at the lowest speed.
If you have friends borrow from them if they have a working backup games.
If the forum helps you provide confirmation so that other user can read also and can be help.
