well its an endless question to be hnoest mate... some drives have bad flash protection built in some dont... if you dont and you brick the drive - if you havent got the cd key out of it you can kiss you xbox good bye and fetch a new one! but that said if you do it right its pretty simple to get right depending on the type of drive!

You could always get the xblaster if you want. It will make it a little easier for you if you are not used to flashing the xbox.

That's basic knowledge when it comes to flashing.
You can't simply buy a new drive when you don't have the drive key because the drive and the mainboard of your console are associated (therefor the drive key) and getting the key from the mainboard is a pain and nothing a normal user would be able to do.
You get the key during flashing.
Learn the basics, there are around 10000000000 topics of how to flash, plus some good stickies that provide needed informations.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

If you know how to flash then you should know that you have to read out the key during that process to create the new firmware you flash to your drive.

Exactly. Actually, I stored mine on an external harddrive and on a CD, you can never be too sure.

you get the key by reading tutorials and using the search funciton. if you would like to purchase a key, I have several of them. House keys, car keys, door keys, skeleton keys.... which ever ones you want. Sale price is 2 keys for 1 billion dollars.

you should be grateful he even answered your question. most members will not bother with a response since you clearly have not even tried to get the answer on your own. I don't think he was being an ass it was just a sarcastic way of saying you should read first ask later. people here are more than willing to help but if you expect help you have to at least show you made an effort in the first place.
