I buy Region 1 Format DVDs. I want to know if DVD Shrink also works with other region formats. In other words, can I buy, say, a Region 2 formated DVD and back it up to burn a region free copy. Logic tells me I can do this, but I don't want to buy the Region 2 disk and discover that I have a white elephant on my hands.
Region is not a format. It's just a code. The format you should be concerned about is if you purchase a PAL format DVD. You will need to convert it to NTSC.
My question, at least in my mind, still stands. I send DVDs I burn from the hard disk of my DVD recorder to England (Region 2)and they can play them. If someone in England wants to back up a DVD, I presume they can do it with the same DVD Shrink that I use [i]but I do not know that for certain[i]. I want to buy a DVD from England in Region 2 code, back it up in my computer with my DVD Shrink, and have that backup region free. Can I do it?
As my understanding, DVD Shrink can remove any region code from the source DVD and set to any regions for your output.
Though whether your DVD-ROM/RAM or DVD Player can read/play your source DVD is another issue. Most of them are set to specific region as default. There are region free players. And you may be able to alter firmware to make DVD-ROM/RAM region free.
If you have two drives, set one to one region and set another to other region, you can do it without firmware change.
If I'm correct, dvd shrink can change the format from ntsc to pal (or vice versa) in its re-author settings. I know this question has been brought up before in a few other threads before, so the correct answer should be in there somewhere.
I've been setting my backups to region free for donkey's years ie since i started backing up my dvd's. Never once had a problem with a dvd player rejecting any of them.
Changing between NTSC and PAL is something else altogether, never had to do it (i'm Region 2)
