I've seen a few direct threads about each of these companies and wondered how people ranked them as a whole.
Newegg, Tigerdirect, Amazon
I've ordered from all of these companies at least 3 times. Based on my experience as a purchaser for my personal setup and for my company here's what I've come up with:
Amazon - Once you have your information in then ordering is such an easy process. The prices are generally on par with other sites and the customer service is... well okay they AREN'T vapid, and in today's world that's saying something. Finding specifics when building a rig can be tough. Order history - many (over fifty times, lost count)
Newegg - The first couple of times I went through this company I didn't have an issue. The process worked as it should: ordered -> shipped -> received -> product worked. I was actually so pleased with the outcome I decided to buy a family member a present and have it shipped to them. Big mistake. Having an order sent to a seperate address than your own will be a hassle. They want you to add the address to YOUR credit card's billing/shipping address! Talk about convoluted. You can save time by switching companies right there and order from a different place. Order history - 3
Tigerdirect - Easy to order and to work with. I've had a few hassles but the CSR's were able to fix any mishaps even devices that shipped from the store as duds. As for customer service, the reps are a bit scripted but if you lead them along their scripts the right way you can get the assistance you need. If all else fails keep speaking to a supervisor until someone with a cushy paycheck fixes things. Order history - mid to upper 20's
My overall summation of online ordering is that it is harder than it should be. The idea is to make buying an easy experience and sometimes I've found it to be the opposite. I live and work in S. Korea and find that just making the short trip to the many technology markets here can net me a better deal and paying in cash also has its advantages. If companies made it easier to purchase and ship items I could see their sales getting quite a nice boost, which frankly everyone needs in this current economic situation.
Newegg - Great site most of the time, shipping is relativly quick and prices are usualy the lowest or within a few dollars of the lowest. Great deals on cell phone plans.
Amazon - Better selection of non-tech items, but the search feature is total junk for buying PC parts. The prices are usualy the same as newegg or higher. Good site for hard-to-find items. Ebay often beats out Amazon because many of my Amazon searches find only used items while the same searches on eBay get new items.
Tigerdirect - The prices here are too high, and everything is available elsewhere.
i've been using tigerdirect for years and have always had a positive experience. competitive prices, fast shipping, great combo deals, large inventory. they're number one in my book.
yoyo deliver too fast.. 2-5 working days doesn't read as 18 hours in my books XD
am |I complaining? .. well thinking I can have a lie in after 22 years of working would be nice without being rudely interrupted by the postman *bugger*.. lol
I am starting to hate newegg. While I still use them for some stuff, I have noticed that they do not have many of the items I am looking for. I just had to order from ANTOnline.com to get a port multiplier, and two days ago I had to order from another site because newegg does not sell SATA headers. I don't think I am outgrowing the industry; I think newegg is falling behind. That goes for tigerdirect as well (tried them for both items, but they did not have them). I'll post back once I get the two shipments.
