I've played the game on my NTSC Wii from a burned disc, and after I've beaten Kirby in the start of the story mode, it gave me an error message from the game (internally of the game), saying something about the disc.

What is this and how can I fix it?

Maybe it has a bug and it created a save file I can continue from, I'll need to check.

maybe you beat Kirby to hard so he needs to recover his strength or might not be coming back.. try to reburn another DVD and let him win first..just play nice and smooth....just kidding ***chill out**..

it's not a bug used another media and re-burn..Used verbatim -R and write at 3X speed.

... WTF do you want?

Someone with a real answer, please.

*And also - it seemed to corrupt the save. I couldn't start the disc afterwards so I had to delete the save.

If you have the 4.37GB iso you can't play story mode. You need the 8.5GB file, and use a dual layer disk. Burn at 2.4X

I didn't say I have the ripped version, it's the full version, and I burnt it on a TEAC DVD+R DL. It's not what automatically recommend, but the game does play.

But as I said, it seems like the save corrupts it for some reason, as it would give me the same message when trying to reload the disc afterwards if I haven't deleted it.

I don't know if it's about the burning, but I've asked some time ago about the layer break they suggest you to use, because I wasn't sure what would it affect as my game played while I haven't set the layer break to what they ask you to.
But because some people seem to be unable to read/see further than their own limited knowledge, I was kept getting asked to use the layer break, without them getting that it already works (from the few I've played to check it).

So I've eventually reburnt it with the LB thing, and I don't know if it might've caused this problem if it wasn't really needed.

Do you have a modchip or using the backup launcher?

Have you upgraded the backup launcher with the latest cIOS36_rev9

It may or may not make a difference

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/735325

I have the wiikey 2 and SSBB plays perfectly

I also have homebrew and backup launcher but I only tried ssbb to see if it worked or not, never really played it through using the backup launcher.

It is so hard to say if has something to do with the media you use, your burner or if its the launcher itself.

Layer breaks are important in dual layer games, so I don't think you setting it to the proper setting would affect it that way.

I have the backup launcher from that guide, so if you've linked to it that's probably the latest version.

Also, I don't know if it's supposed to be this way, but when I tried to play the online (random one, I didn't try the friend codes thing), it simply left me for minutes with that "sand sack" character with no server updates until I've simply disconnected, like either no one plays online/it doesn't connect.

Is that a problem or that it takes a long time until it finds opponents?

Ok larrylje just updated the guide a day or two ago. It has the new cIOS36_rev9

You could also try the usb loader 1.1 if you have a usb drive.
I know people have installed SSBB to a drive and it works.

I don't play it online, so not sure if thats what happens.

Maybe there was no random online players at the time.

I've checked in other sites and it doesn't say anything about a new version.

And it seems strange - I still had this message problem again later even without using saves, where it simply showed it at some parts where it needed to load from the disc. Those times it actually worked when I've ejected and reinserted the disc while this error shows so it kept loading, even though I don't think that it worked when it happened for the first time with the Kirby thing.

But if it's just a random problem - maybe the lense has problems reading it? Because I've read that some consoles had problems reading the actual SSBB disc, and that Nintnedo said these are dirty lenses which needed to get clean.

My Wii is pretty new so I don't know if it could be dirt (if they even say the truth), but maybe it's some lense compatibility.

Ok, first - it doesn't work, like I thought, it simply lives the message, and I think that it looks a bit longer than the other ones.
Is there a chance that it was because of space? Because I don't know how the Wii's save management works, but when I went into the Data Management to delete the created save again, all of the blocks were full, and it didn't seem like it has another page.

And about the backup launcher - I'm not sure what it did.
I've downloaded that file pack again, but as I already had the Wad manager on my SD card, and the Homebrew channel is already installed, I didn't really think that I need all of these and only took that WiiGator's WAD file into the WADs folder.
I've updated my Wii's firmware so I went into that 3.4 folder, if it has any difference (I think that it's only about the HBC installation, but never mind)

I then went into the WAD manager through the homebrew channel and installed that WAD (while I already got the previous loader), but as well for a seemingly too fast installation (a matter of seconds), it didn't add any other channel, and I don't know if it overwritten the first one.
It did started the disc right away for some reason without showing the updating data which it should show while getting the DVD's information, but maybe it was some lag.

Yes seeing you have homebrew already, you only needed to install cios36 rev9 and then the WiigatorGamma.wad in the list and press + on the Wiimote.
This will install the channel to the Wii menu. After it has installed press HOME on the Wiimote to return to the Wii channel menu.

You only needed to follow this part of the tutorial below

Installing WiiGator Backup Launcher 0.3 gamma:

1) Launch the Homebrew Channel via the Wii channel menu. Select the cIOS36_rev9 in the Homebrew Channel list. This will start the installer. You need to press A to accept that you have read the disclaimer.

You have 2 options on how to install the cIOS files (you do not need to do both options!)...

WAD Installation: Google IOS36-64-v1042.wad and download it. Then place it in the root of the SD Card. Then chose WAD Instillation option.

Network Installation: At the instillation option screen press left 1 time on the + pad of the Wiimote. This will download the files via WiFi.

After you have selected the option you want and installed the cIOS your Wii should reboot to the Wii Channel menu.

2) Launch the Homebrew Channel via the Wii channel menu. Select wadmanger in the Homebrew Channel list. Press A to accept that you have read the disclaimer. Then select SD Card as source. Now go to WiigatorGamma.wad in the list and press + on the Wiimote. This will install the channel to the Wii menu. After it has installed press HOME on the Wiimote to return to the Wii channel menu.

Now you can launch Wii backup games from the WiiGator backup launcher channel in the Wii channel menu.

Why don't you just re-burn with verbatim DL media @ 2.4x speed. The layer break position in imgburn should be: 2084960

You would be surprised how many problems this fixes. ---Chikn

But what did it do in the first time I made this?
It probably installed something, but I don't know what and if it just spread some files over the storage without using them (which I don't need it to).

And about the Verbatim thing - first, I've seen people writing that that specific disc didn't work for them.
Second, the thing is that as well for sometimes just "disconnecting"
from the disc, which can be solved be reinserting it, it does this Kirby thing and I don't know why.

I don't know if the Kirby part is already written on the second layer or something, because if it was I could've tell that it's specifically with the layer.

Maybe I should burn it again WITHOUT using that layer break, I want to see if it'll work. Even though I've already wasted several DVDs and they costs pretty much a lot.

And by the why, why all of you people keep thinking that the burning speed matters? It burns the data, all of the bits get burned. That's it.

All of the time I see people posting about only burning at x4 blah blah blah, and I burn my games at x18 and they all work fine.

You can't burn Dual Layer games at 18x

2.4x is the setting to burn a DL disc.

For games Verbatim DL DVD+R is the best media to use.
For movies etc, the other types of media are fine.

As for single layer games, the burning speed does matter.

If you are burning way too fast, then the data may not get burned in the proper place on the disc.

Check out digitalfaqs.com for more info

Your burner, speed, brand and type of disc all make a difference in burning games.

I was speakign about single layer, and according to people it does matter.

But it doesn't, for both single and dual.

And I got it to work, but I'm not sure if it's beacuse of the update.

First, I wanted to try the classic mode so I've beated it with bowser (I didn't really play it before). But I don't really think it's that.

But then, when I tried to enter the advanture mode again, instead of entering the "No name" option like I did until now, I've used some name that was already registered, and it didn't get stuck after the Kirby.

I can check if it gets stuck without a name (even though it might get fixed if a working save is already used), but I don't want it to (maybe) ruining the already working save and forcing me the erase the data.

And about the internet, I think that it got a problem. I then tried to use the "spectator" thing to see if it can enter an existing game, and it said that it has a problem with the server or something and it disconnected me from the connection.

And a last question - Is your Wii also making strange noises while loading? I guess that it's because the DVDs are not exactly the same is Wii discs, but even though I don't remember it doing that with an original disc, it makes some very strict noises, like it loads in pulses while creaks the cogwheel or I don't know what.

It's like "tooo...-eruuu-uu-uu-uu-oo.. toootoo". I doesn't sound very well, and some games are doing it constantly on their menues even though I don't think it even needs to load anything in the menu, and it sounds like if it would get left that way for 10 minutes it would break.

It's the worst with "Call of Duty: World at War".

Well I had said the update may or may not help. It has been confirmed by others to help with certain games.

As for the noises in your wii drive, that could very well be the brand of disc your using or speed you burned at.
You say original plays fine.

I don't have that problem with any of my backups, and am fairly new too the wii so can't say for sure.

I know with the PS2 laser, it does make a big difference.

The only thing I do know with the wii, is every wii seems different as to what media it likes or dislikes.
They are not all the same.

I tried several different discs and all of them does that.

I don't know if it's supposed to be with every game, but I did see other people complaining about noise problems with COD4.

Have you tried out the usb loader 1.1 yet?

It works really great. I like having that feature now on the wii.

Save on some disks. I am just using a 16GB pen drive at the moment and it works awesome.

I don't know, it costs much more than discs and even if you have a generally big one it still won't be able to store many games (and sychronizing the storage all of the time is tedious and time consuming, as well for requiring you to keep all of the game on PC).

I made a quick check, and a 32GB SanDisk (enough for maybe 6-7 games) would cost me about a 100$.

Usually, on this site, when people give you advice it is in an attempt to trouble-shoot your problem. Whether you choose to follow the advice or not is your business. But if you do not wish to follow the advice of other members don't just disregard the advice and ask why, why, why? The advice we are giving is based on problems that we have seen, helped with, and have had ourselves. The Wii is a picky little machine. Speed and brand of disc matter. You may get a disc that will only work intermittently and be unable to figure out what is "wrong" with the Wii when in fact it was the disc the entire time. When you shoot down all of our suggestions it really makes you look like you do not want the help, since you have it all figured out. My final bit of advice: try to be a bit more open minded and learn from the mistakes of others. ---Chikn
