pc keeps locking up when using dvd shrink....why?

using dvd shrink my pc keeps locking up when going through the backup process, ive been taking all extras out, i have successfully done a few but some just keep locking me up, it dosent happen when using dvd decrypter but that is no good for big dvds, im using the sony dw-u14a, xp2600, 512ddr....

ive heard dvd2one is good but you have to pay for it..

im new to this so im not sure what is wrong, my machine? software? settings? please help if you can, cheers
