For my 3rd DVD drive, what brand?

Looks like I'll be replacing my 2nd DVD drive as I'm now getting the "disc unreadable" error suddenly on everything and it takes 2-3 times of hitting the eject button before the tray will actually open.

I've had an MS25 and an MS28.

I could easily just use one of them again and just switch out the dvd cards and not even have to flash anything again.

But are they just crappy? Or why am I burning through them in like 200 hours?

Should I go with a BenQ or something else next?

What do you all think is the best one? Thanks everyone.

Well, suddenly my problem is much more different, I can now play certain games, but not other games I was playing two hours ago...

Most originals are working, but backups of the same, which I was just playing 2 hours ago are not... but it's still making a pretty large "static" sound, so it's possible the drive is still fried and it's just easier for it to read the originals?

yes originals are much easier for the drive to read. If it reads originals fine I would try a pot calibration first. this may extend the life you get out of this drive. Then if it goes out again get a benq. I have had good luck with them.

Agreed. BenQs are good solid drives. Easy to read and flash. Quiet operations and quiet reading of the disc.

Yes, Verbatim disc from Singapore burned at 2x. I've been using them sucessfully for months with no problems until last night.

The problems seems to have fixed itself though, I just left the box running for about an hour after the 5-6 failed attempts at getting games to load, and tried one more time and it's been working fine since then...

Strange, but I will probably still replace the drive with a BenQ, I just read too many good things about them since they've been suggested here.

before replacing the entire drive, try cleaning the laser or just replacing it. 10 bucks vs. 45 bucks.
