The problem's in the title.

I have downloaded Tekken 5 via torrent. I burn the .iso onto a DVD. I use cogswap (using GTA:SA as the 'first' disk) and attempt to boot the burnt DVD.

For some reason, when I try booting my burnt DVD, the screen just stays black.

I have tried the following:
- Burning more DVDs (about 5 now)
- Burning at different speeds (from x1 up to x16)
- Downloading a different torrent
- Using a different 'first' disk (GT4)

Also, the first torrent I burnt was PAL, the second was NTSC. Do different regions still affect playability even when using cogswap?

Thanks alot for any input.

LOL!?!?

Surely buying tekken 5 would be cheaper nowadays and besides you'll feel better

I'll probably save money on all these DVDs I'm wasting too... -_-

But seriously, I can't work out what's wrong :( I'm using Verbatim 16x DVD-R, so the media is good. I've used cogswap before. I've used different .iso's too...

What speed are you burning at?

Most ps2s dont like discs burnt anything higher than 4x and tekken 5 accesses the disc ALOT so 2x is preferred

Hmm, well I did have one at x2 (or maybe even x1). But I'll try the other iso at 2x.

I didn't realise it would access it that much, I assumed there wouldn't be much to load (stages and characters, lol...)

Thanks for the help, I'll try it again.

BUMP.

No luck :(

Anything else that could be causing this? Can a wrong region produce a black screen?

LOL!?!?

I tried another iso. Still no luck. I really cannot see the problem here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm now using FIFA 05 as the inital disk because it has a larger TOC than GTA:SA. I've burnt Tekken 5 at 2x on Verbatim DVD-Rs, I'm doing the cogswap method correctly as I can get other games to run using it.

My system is PAL, but the iso is NTSC which shouldn't cause a problem, should it?

Is there anything weird about Tekken 5 which could be causing this?

Again, appreciate any help I get. Thanks guys :)

If i remember correctly Tekken 5 is very difficult with swap magic(Cogswap is based on swapmagic afaik).

You could try using Free MCBOOT and then you wouldnt need to swap again but you would have to patch all your isos to boot them.

Awwh man, reading about Free MCBoot has just led me down a path that has completely swamped my mind with options and further problems.

My options to me:
- Buy the game (for some reason, in my mind this seems to defeat the objective, and so I won't feel like playing it. Very strange...)
- Get Free MCBoot to install (even then, I can't guarantee that my burnt DVD will load. On top of that, I'm finding it tricky to load the installation CD-R through cogswap *sigh*)
- Boot my iso from a USB device. (Guides seem to suggest I need to re-format any devices I need - not really an attractive option)
- Download Tekken 4 or Tekken Tag Tournament, haha <--- most viable option ;)

Thanks for the help sobhy2406. Do you think getting MCBoot to work would run the iso?

I'd say it would work yeah, swap magic and tekken 5 just dont seem to work well together.

Install FMCB by whatever way you want and then patch your iso and burn a new disc and it should work.

Lol, well this leads to anothr problem... Cogswap just won't seem to boot my CD-Rs *face palm*

Searching, I see lots of similar problems... but no solutions! Atm, I'm just downloading Tekken Tag too :D Need my fix, that's all.

Also, once I have FMCB up and running, where can I acquire a patch for my isos, as I also haven't heard any mention of this on my internet crawlings.

Thanks alot :D

If cogswap wont load your cd-rs you could convert the cd image to dvd, i think theres a guide somewhere on the internet.
Search PS2 swap magic convert cd to dvd(Ive done it before IIRC

Heres the patch

Thanks, I did manage to find the patch, but I appreciate the effort you're going to in helping me :D

Now, some sources say I can just burn the iso to a DVD and it will work as normal. I'll try that first and post the results. If not, DVD Decrypter can apparantly convert CD isos to a DVD one.

Meh, I'll try it.

Thanks so much again :D

EDIT: Okay, ImgBurn (the burning software I use (very reliable I might add :D)) just asked if I wanted to convert it so that's all good.

LOL!?!?

I must say sobhy2406, you have been a great help in all this. I appreciate it so much :D

It seems I have now got Free MCBoot configured and running correctly. This is so much better than the Independance MC Exploit I previously had.

Applied the ESR patch to my Tekken 5 iso and now currently burning that to a DVD. Made the silly mistake of trying to burn the FMCB to a CD-R (which wouldn't run), not realising the .elf was RIGHT THERE for me to boot (bit of a D'oh! moment, but give me a break - it's nearly midnight where I am ;))

So now, if I can run Tekken 5 on ESR with the Free MCBoot, I will not only have accomplished what I set out to do, but also I will have acquired a much neater, polished loader too.

If there was some way to give karma or kudos in these forums, I certainly would. You've really nudged me in all the right directions, sobhy2406. I mean, I may now have about 10 useless (but expensive) coasters, but the end result is finally here; Tekken 5!

Thanks alot, man :D
